Player of the Season

I'd have voted for Pukki if I saw it. However we seem to sell anyone I vote for so hopefully thats jinxed his "Barry Butler Trophy" move away from Carra Rud.

In all fairness I wouldn't blame him if he did decide to move on, he's proved twice now that he's good enough to play at the top. But I hope he stays for another season or two, he's still got a lot of goals in him.

So the Facebook & Twitter accounts got a load of clearly non-NCFC fan-votes, EDP wrote a story & other outlets picked it up.

I’ve not voted as never saw anything either.  I get stuff on Facebook all the time but nothing came in there about Player if the Season. Was going to vote for Hanley but don’t mind if Teemu gets it.

EDP article: "It is understood...not in top five".

In journalistic language, that means it may or may not be true but we will push that narrative as that's want we want you to believe, but we have no evidence to cite in order to back up this claim, so in other words, source: trust me bro.

I'll guess we'll never know. Poor Nashy didnt get his accolade though 😜

So he's already been given the trophy, no presentation on Sunday, on the pitch as usual?

Very poor.

I partly think they shouldn't have bothered this year given how dreadful things have gone, but equally it is a yearly thing so guess they felt they had to.

I would imagine there will be no presentation, and possibly no 'lap of honour' at the end, because let's face it, depending how badly the match goes the atmosphere might not be good!

I imagine they want to suck all the oxygen out of the room so no fires can start. Media blackout. Even for positive news.

In a break from tradition, Pukki was awarded the Barry Butler trophy at the training ground on Wednesday rather than in front of supporters at the club's final game of the season on Sunday.,

I do think the decision not to present it at the game is an odd one.

Even in such a rubbish season, Pukki is probably the one player who deserves to have the fans recognition. I certainly wouldn't want to see most of this squad doing any kind of post game walk around the ground (most do enough slow walking and clapping DURING the game!) but Pukki deserves his moment.

Being paranoid it makes me think club dont want to 'parade' the POTS just before it's announced he has been sold!

I hope the pink un journalists pick this up with Smith in the pre match press conference.

Hmm... I've got to admit I keep thinking back to Pukki's comments in this article - Norwich may have extended his contract but like Cantwell it's probably just to ensure we will get money if somebody wants them

We will soon find out. Pukki is far too good for the Championship, he’d be a great signing for at least half a dozen clubs in the Premier League. There was rumoured interest from a Spanish club too a few months ago.

The voting opened last Monday and closed 3 days later on Thursday so yet another great piece of communications by the club.

Absolutely shocking handled by our fantastically well run club! Obviously scared it would be hijacked..

It would be as stupid as selling Buendia if we cashed in on Pukki.. so probably being planned as we speak

Fan engagement at its lowest + disillusionment at its highest = Toxicity, let alone Norwich City, and decisions such as this without explanation only fuel the fire.  Where oh where is the leadership required?

I see no reason why they couldn't have awarded him the trophy on the pitch before the match. There's no doubt he would have got an outstanding reception, and he clearly deserves one. Will be interested to see if it's mentioned in the pre-match warm-up at all... this is a tradition dating back to the 1960s, so even though we've had a crap season I see no reason to break with that tradition.

One to bring up at the next OSP meeting, methinks – not just the absence of the opportunity to congratulate Teemu publicly, but the complete lack of comms regarding how and when to vote, and the vastly shortened voting period. If they were worried about the vote being hijacked by Chelsea fans, just allow one vote per customer number/season ticket holder, verified with a postcode or something.

Very disappointed with the way this has been handled.

No lap of appreciation, get the players in quick at the whistle and hope the protests are minimal.looks like a warm day weather wise, another no show and it might not be pretty.

I actually feel very apprehensive about going. Spurs need to win the game, if they score a couple early it could turn into a complete rout

How very strange. That with the short voting period doesn't seem right. Don't know what the club are afraid of.....if they are afraid of protests or something, they should rise above it. However, I presume Pukki will get a great reception on Sunday. Deserves it too.

Webber will show them how to rise above any protests, he can teach them how to blow kisses and make hand gestures.

@Feedthewolf (and any other OSP members on here)

IMO this is exactly what the OSP is for.

Please bring up this issue at the next meeting, highlighting:

1. the ways that voting can be made more secure (e.g. votes only to those with a customer #)

2. the very poor comms of the Vote, the announcement and the presentation

3. the disrespect this shows to Barry Butler (and his family).  Maybe add that a certain someone would be highly insulted if the Young Player Award (I believe) was treated in the same way

4. Seek answers for these actions

And if you feel that the meeting will only sit up and take notice if opinion is widespread, maybe run a poll on this site in order to get a wide view?

Well done  Teemu, but should be in front of fans and before final home game would be best.

Just one of a minority of players putting in any effort in games.

Pleased Grant runner-up he always puts in effort.

Hate to think who would be dummy of season, the list is long !!

Very disappointing indeed. As you say Wolfie , present Pukki pre-match . As the saying goes " Traditions die hard". Looks like it's not a problem for the club just now. Strange times.🤔

He should have got it before the match.

He has earnt it and would easily have scored more in a team that gave him the ball.

Shame on our out of contact club for not saying thankyou to one of the few that have tried.

Agreed, the club has made a total hash of this.

It almost looks like the club have tried to completely brush it under the carpet this year by not publicising the vote or presenting the award on the pitch.

If he’s not prepared to sign a new contract he’ll be off next summer for nothing.

There’s two issues with that for me. I think we need to keep him regardless as his goals are the thing most likely to get us promoted, but if he leaves on promotion we are absolutely screwed.

So I can see the logic of replacing him now with a new striker to give them a year to bed in.

However I think we just need to give him another 3 year contract at terms he wants to keep him till he’s 35, he’s just too good and too important to let leave.

Socialists hold fans in contempt. They ought to go. Preferably no later than midnight tonight.
