It has struck me that our decline has coincided with our lack of chairperson

. A wise head not necessarily a football person who can provide focus and bring the disparate board members together. Not sure why we dispensed with a chair but they can bring the various parts together eg finance, recruitment, training, publicity, fan involvement, club ethos etc.

Ed Balls fulfilled this role and he provided a figurehead that acted as a link between the owners and the rest of the board. We have seen Webber being virtually autonomous and also the sponsorship debacle. The AGM was chaired by Stefan and it was a bit like it was “Buggins turn”

I think we desperately need a world wise high profile chairperson and preferably but not necessarily one with football knowledge.

Any ideas?

Correct and we also have not had a CEO since Ben Kensell left a year ago.

I don't know if any of this has been mentioned before ? 😜

No CFO since Steve Stone left? Who's holding onto the purse strings?

Many of us have been saying for a long time how this demonstrates how dysfunctional the Club has become.

Quite so. The owners so fit to scrap the post of CEO and also saw no need to retain a Club Chairman. Far too much power was devolved to Webber and this season in particular we have witnessed the consequences.

Unless we're about to go back into debt because Webber has gone rouge with finances then it's really not been a huge failure has it? Sure this season has been **** but I highly doubt it would have been different even with a chairperson on the board. It's all assumptions but I'd say losing Kieran Scott was far more impactfful than even Ben Kensell.

Exactly.

Can you imagine any other P.L.C without a chair. No leadership off the field has been mirrored on the field.

Anthony Richens is the Finance Director, he joined us from MK Dons in 2020. He was added to the executive committee in the reshuffle a couple of months ago.

As I have said in previous posts, there is no  senior management structure at the Club and as a result, the Club is on a downward spiral.

Ed Balls was there to challenge Board decisions and there is now no Chairperson to fulfil that crucial role of any business, whether it be football club or other “normal” business.

in addition, there is no CEO to steer the direction of the Club, just a hugely inexperienced married couple in roles they have never fulfilled before.

Sadly, they are out of their depth, but with no challenge from above, the downward slide is very predictable.

Seems like all our chickens came home to roost at once. The poor recruitment, the terrible manager, the soccerbot and the lack of off-field leadership finally kicking in. Never stood a chance.

Delia is still holding the purse strings though. Fact.

I like this thread.  Not that I haven't been bleating on about it since Xmas.

What do we want? Real corporate governance! When do we want it?  Now!

Oh yeah, I don't dispute that. It was more a response to 'no CFO since Stone left', just saying that Richens is the most senior financial employee at the club nowadays.

I have enjoyed these threads recently. The reinvention of Doncaster, the new found respect for his standing on the corner and pressing the flesh. Of course, here we have mention of the heady times of Ed “spends all f****ng week dancing” Balls. Amazing we were so disparaging at the time, if only we could have seen what was to come. 😁 I’m still amazed we ever got past Balls being paid for temporarily stepping into a role… how much did he pocket..???

I do wonder what the plans are though. Maybe it will just be the status quo, they’ve managed for three and a half years I suppose..🤷🏻‍♂️

Remember Chris Gorehams commentary when Sargent under hit that shot against Brighton when he said if only Josh wasn't pondering our lack of a chairman he would've scored.

The season could've been so different.

You’re missing the point mate.  A CEO / Chair isn’t just there to lead / oversee during the good times.  They’re there to provide leadership and hold people accountable when things have been disastrous.
