lake district canary 4,816 Posted April 22, 2022 Whatever league we are in next season, I am starting to feel very optimistic about our chances. Pukki to stay. Idah to be a big factor. Sargent to find his scoring confidence. Rashica to be a big influence. PLM, Rowe, McLean, Sorensen, Dowell, Rupp - all well up to the championship, Placheta to develop into a real threat. Tzolis to find his feet and show why he was seen to have big potential. All our defenders well up to the job, Omobamidele to establish himself as first choice. Gunn/Krul/Barden/Mcgovern as a top goal keeping team. Even if one or two leave, that is heck of a squad to take into next season, anyone that leaves, we can bring in one or two to strengthen that. Haven't mentioned Normann, expect he will leave, but if he stays, that will show his commitment to the cause and he would be a key player too. Bring on the rest of this season.....if we somehow manage to beat Newcastle and the three teams above us lose this weekend, we will be tantalisingly close to catching them up, but even if we don't stay up, no reason to be downhearted! canarydan23 4,758 Posted April 22, 2022 I'm optimistic because we will be in a proper football league next year rather than a corporate entertainment competition akin to WWE. Football will become enjoyable again.
Midlands Yellow 4,682 Posted April 22, 2022 (edited) Well said Lakey, with this pending relegation (3rd instant one on the trot in the Premier and record breaking to boot) we should be celebrating. Edited April 22, 2022 by Midlands Yellow
cambridgeshire canary 7,797 Posted April 22, 2022 I'm more interested to see if the monney bags are opened and if Smith is given the chance to build his own team

MORDENCANARY 71 Posted April 22, 2022 I admire your optimism. Don't underestimate the strength of the Championship,it's a brutal league. Last time City won the title due to three factors. Firstly Buendia, secondly Skipp and lastly the empty Covid stadiums which suited Norwich especially away from home There won't be these three decisive factors next season. Google Bot 3,923 Posted April 22, 2022 I'm optimistic for us too. However, you've got to be in the top 2 to guarantee success. There's already a lot of very good teams in the championship, and we don't fully know who is going down. That's where my concern lays. We have to hold on to players like Rashica, it's as simple as that for me, he will be the game changer in that league and would work very well with Idah who has a bit more physicality than Pukki. I just don't know if Smith will set us up longer term with building a prem team in mind, or purely play the season as it is with sole target of getting back. That mindset will very much determine the importance of players like Sargent. To me, he lacks so much at the top level, positionally, decision making and shocking ball control. However, his physical ability would make him a strong performer in championship.

With him and Idah in the side and with the intelligent running of Pukki, we have a very strong attacking three and that's even without thinking about Rashica who if he stays will be a big asset. Dowell too - and imo, Placheta.

The Championship is a weak league. It isn't arrogant to say that, it just is. Clubs throughout the league are absolutely shot financially which is why teams with relatively limited quality like Luton and Huddersfield are in the thick of a promotion hunt.

The Championship is tough but given Luton and Forest are two of this seasons best in the league yet bealive me having watched them both play one another recently there really was not much 'quality' between the two of them that's for sure.. I don’t understand why empty stadiums suited us in the Championship but we were dire in them in the Premier League?

I guess the argument would be that the underdog benefits from the support of a crowd? Being the underdog for majority of prem league matches and the favourite for majority of championship games really is quite extreme difference.
