PL modify rules to protect 'big' teams

Recommended Posts

The latest rule change in the PL is just another nail in the coffin of clubs who are not willing to bust out the credit cards.

Quote

Premier League clubs will be able to make five substitutions each game from next season after shareholders agreed to change the rules. The substitutions can be made on three occasions during a match, plus at half-time, and a total of nine substitutes can be named on the teamsheet.

So now, if your team of international players is struggling a bit against a bunch of newly promoted upstarts who aren't prepared to go millions of pounds into debt for the honour of playing in 'the best league in the world' you can just lob on yet another couple of multi-million pound subs with fresh legs to secure the victory. And if that doesn't work, there is always Video Assisted Rigging to fall back on.

Time for teams like us to face it - if the powers that be don't think a team has the international appeal to secure overseas TV rights deals they will do all in their power to replace it with a team that makes the product more saleable. It's not about the sport anymore - it's just about the money.

If it's not on the front page it's fine, but I fully agree with you. It's a stupid rule that only helps the big clubs.

Just found it on P3. I'm afraid that I feel so disconnected from the club at the moment that my visits are less regular than in the past.
