What Salah wants…….

Recommended Posts

It seems that he wants £400,000 pw to sign another contract. Up from the £300,000 he is presently on.

However it means, if he does in fact pay UK taxes, his weekly tax will pay our Prime Ministers salary for a whole year.

Do we need any further evidence about how mad the world of PL football has become.

Love football, but hate what it’s become.

There are far too many of these footballers on such massive wages. If they earn these massive amounts then they should be taxed accordingly, and I mean much more than 45%.
There are, however, not too many of them that are more generous than Salah.
I suspect many Egyptian peasants will benefit from his pay rise.

Ronaldo is reported to be on £500,000 a week already, and Messi is said to be on £600,000 so you have some sympathy on Salah having to scrape by.

Plus there's the extra cost of electricity as well!

Football is a multi billion quid industry and Salah is one of the stars of the game. If anything, he deserves more money if you think in pure supply/demand terms.

Where should the money go if it doesn’t go to Salah?

Football is a team game. One man alone will not win trophies.

Denise Coates of Stoke City fame, is said to have had a salary of £250 million last year + £97.5 million in dividends as a bonus (but this was a pay cut of £70 million from the year before).

To be fair though, she has qualities that nobody else in the world can match, she is the founder's daughter. (No nepotism here though 😉)

Lol! I think the players arguments are solely on how much merchandise they bring to the club as a international star. Essentially Ronaldo is ‘worth’ so much more to the club than he costs and he knows it! I suspect if some big shot investor made a company returns of multi millions then they’d be paid proportionally on commission, if there was an effective way to gauge how much a player generated then paying them proportionately would be the most sensible, but there isn’t. I think the extra sponsorship and branding deals they do on top of their wages irritates me. All very well if you’re as good as Ronaldo is over his career but the money thrown at relatively average players is mental. That said the companies paying hem will have calculated that value and they make billions in profits do know better than me.
Bit of an indictment of capitalism tbf but then I chose the public sector and am happy enough with my lot. Mostly 😂

He actually has his own merchandise/ sponsorship deals on top of this as well.

Next time there's one on notice the Ronaldo advert and whether he is wearing Man U kit. Most of the adverts he doesn't (he wears a generic kit) so the money goes to  him, but  he also does  promotional work for Man U  too, on these occasions he will be in Man U kit.

He is great at the self branding thing! Although I’ve never been one to buy into it personally. When Beckham released his odour to the masses I thought I’d rather stink than admit I was wearing ‘David’ 😂. He took the shine off my Haig Club too

It really is disgusting how wealthy owners have wrecked the market by offering huge transfer fees and wages for players. Chris Sutton was supposed to sold for £5m. Nowadays I reckon a PL striker of his quality would go for over 10x that

Whilst this is true, it doesn’t really answer my question…

Do you think Liverpool should tell Salah to take a hike and let him leave for free next summer then?

I have checked and she was certainly a joint founder. Wiki has it a family venture, the money was raised though his businesses but she developed the online platform, so you are right, she deserves more credit than I gave her. She is also the majority shareholder with her brother and Peter having large stakes too. Essentially though it is her business, so I stand corrected. 👍

It seems that most Premiership players could take pay cut, without being made destitute.
I would be quite happy for season tickets to be on a par with the Bundesliga and the TV rights to be much less, reducing the fees I have to pay for Sky and BT.

I absolutely HATE this league with a passion now. I don’t want Norwich to be anything to do with it

>inb4 ”ughhh but without the premier league money you wouldn’t have had the players you’ve had over the years”

I’d rather watch Norwich playing a team of kids in the championship/league one than watch premier league football. I hate all it’s clubs, all it’s fans. The very concept of it is now nauseating to me and they can have it. I want to cut it off and float it out to sea

It is simple supply and demand he wants 400,000 a week because someone will pay it. Paris St Germain most likely. The only positive is that Liverpool will realise again they are not at the top table when it comes  to talent.

Dare I say it……reduce prices to watch the games…..

I trust you must be joking when you say he deserves more!

A little bit less socialism my man! No place here for lefty do-gooders. 😃

A capitalist economist would argue that many Liverpool ticket prices are too low - especially the bigger games. Big game tickets, like cup finals should really be priced at several hundred pounds each.

They would argue that  if you got your pricing right, there would be no black market. The extra revenue could be used to pay Salah what he really deserves.

look I get where you are coming from but the very fact it has got to the point that players are unhappy and want more when they are already being paid more in a week than many earn in their entire life is a joke and even you have to admit that. Maybe if it was say 300 grand a year then prehaps I could understand but 300 grand a week is ridiculous

A lot of football clubs were set up by the concerned middle classes (mainly Christian groups) to give the workers something to do other than drink and fight etc. They were worried when Parliament passed Laws giving maximum hours etc

An entertainment provided for the people to keep them out of trouble. It wasn't initially a "grass roots" movement but something encouraged by the middle classes for the lower class.

That’s a legitimate argument. I don’t want to hear this argument from anyone who rails against banker bonuses or CEO pay though. Not saying you do, I just know a few champagne socialist Liverpool fans who are a tad inconsistent on this matter.

Agents, it's always the agents. Salah (maybe I'm wrong) comes across as a humble guy who loves his club, and who may realize the grass ain't always greener elsewhere. But agents.. they are the greediest element in all this, from hyperbolic transfer fees to unsustainable wages and other demands.

Salah hasn’t forgotten his roots and donates money to good causes that are close to him. One last good pay day for him👍

Depends what you mean by “deserves”. Sure you could say a nurse on £20k deserves more because they save lives etc. and I understand that argument. It doesn’t hold up in an economic sense though.

Mo Salah makes Liverpool Football Club far more that £400k a week so in that sense he deserves more money. Perhaps I more support the argument of another tier of income tax for the super rich (say 50% of earnings over £200k a year) but then people just run off to another country where they get taxed less.

Salahs main reasoning for his wage demands is to put him on a par with the other elite players like De Bruyne etc. which is a logical argument.

Perhaps the sides should all be taxed 1% of their turnover to invest in grassroots elements of the game.
