“It’s not a free hit!” How refreshing to hear the positivity from Dean Smith about playing Man City compared to what we used to hear from Farke!

All the stats for the season up since Smith replaced Farke yet some fans still wish Farke was here!

This guy IS a Premier League manager whereas sadly Farke clearly wasn’t!

Farke developed a 'God complex' thanks to the hype around the club and it's fanbase. Thankfully we have our feet back on the ground again now and a manager who sees himself as a football manager rather than a celebrity.

What makes both the above posts hilarious and clearly lacking in awareness is the fact that we beat Man City at home under Farke.

Unfortunately any "God complex" was created by fans and the club. Daniel Farke came across as  professional, respectful, and diplomatic and anything but a celebrity. If his success under challenging constraints is ignored, that will be the disgrace.

Farke complete lack of ego at least outside of the club is the main reason he is plying his trade in Ukraine.

Since then we have rolled over and had our tummy tickled not once but twice 5-0 both times and yes before you say it they were away.

Also makes Farke's comments from this season pretty hilarious too though, does it not? It appears he forgot too!

It's an interesting and weird stat that we've never lost twice to Man city in any of the relegations.

You've done it now Nigel! 😔

Yeah, they were away. And it's not really relevant to my point.

Equally we drew against Arsenal, Spurs, beat Spurs in the cup etc.

The point is, I like Smith, he's out-performed Farke at this level so far. But just saying things that fans like to hear doesn't necessarily mean we do any better against the top teams.

@Nora's Ghost is just some weird troll, clearly not a Norwich fan so i'll just ignore his post.

Not really, he said the same things before we played them last time. Farke just plays the media differently. It's not like Smith's got us better results against the big teams yet - so let's wait and see.

I think you're probably right, but it did feel like Farke was taking it to another extreme towards the end, making it sound like any result would be an absolute miracle. Same as Hughton to a certain extent.

I appreciate the press conferences are a minor factor overall, and definitely exaggerated by us as it is the only real insight we get into the manager's psyche - as opposed to god knows what goes on behind the scenes. But both press conferences and performances were pretty well lined up in the end, both of a side feeling rather sorry for itself.

I suppose where Farke / Hughton went wrong is continuing to big up the opposition to that extent even when the team was going through a bad patch. All well and good in 19/20 when we're riding a crest of a wave following a surprise promotion, or picking up results, but potentially damaging when we're stuck in a rut of consecutive games where we're not remotely competing.

The performances from Farke this season against the big sides (particularly Chelsea and Man City) were of a team who had already conceded defeat before a ball was kicked, and the team has shown a hell of a lot more fight under Smith in general. So I am expecting improved performances tomorrow and versus Liverpool though admittedly probably the same result!

We need more evidence before we can compare Farke and Smith. Yes, Smith is currently making a much better fist of scraping out results in the Prem than Farke ever did. But if, as still seems likely, we go down, will we be able to bounce right back up in the imperious way we did under Farke?

One of only 6 games he won youmean out of 49?

Yes he won against Man City but how many teams on a similar level to us did he manage to beat?

You try are sad if you think one win over City is worthy of him being a top flight hero!

6 wins in 49, just let that sink in. Yep really good stat, but don’t let the true facts get in the way of your love in with Farke

You know those cartoon drawings where it shows the point, and you completely missing it?

Well you didn't earn a Google search so just imagine that.

Ironic how Dean Smith says we should be competitive against them and is lauded as an inspirational football prophet.

And Daniel Farke called it a free hit and still beat them.

Again, I like Dean Smith and he's out performed Farke at this level.

But yesterday shows that just saying stuff to make @TheBaldOne66 cream his pants doesn't actually impact the result on the pitch   as i said

I think to make anything of Smith’s comment is a bit mad. Irrespective of whether he said ‘it’s not a free hit’ any club outside the top 4 probably thinks it is a free hit. This doesn’t play well with fans however, despite the realistic expectation is that we will probably get beaten comfortably 9 times out of 10. Comparing what Farke said and what Smith said doesn’t change that imo both thought it was a game they expected to lose and anything they get out of it is a massive bonus. Last time at Carrow road was one of those days where it happened, zero point comparing the two. I’ll let you into a little secret, DS sees Liverpool as a free hit. He won’t be saying that obviously, but he will have no expectations of getting a point away at anfield whatsoever. And neither should he, do any of us really think it’s going to happen?

Im not saying I want him to openly say ‘we’ve got no chance’ but I’m not going to lambast him for saying it’s a free hit either!

He isn’t. He’s in Russia.
