Press Conference update

Recommended Posts

Looks like Josh is back for tomorrow, but Kabak still ill; Omobamidele has gone back to see a specialist…he does seem to have been out quite a while now.
Seems we’re not yet sure about starting Normann in games just yet but they will presumably come as he builds his fitness levels.

It’s also Idah’s 21st birthday today so DS hoping he’ll bring cakes in🎂.  I guess for us a goal and a win tomorrow would be a great present👍🙂!

Shame about Omo. Hopefully it's just a case of him still growing into that considerable frame.

CB does seem to be causing a few issues - fortunately Ben and Grant seem to have continued to have a good partnership and Zimbo is also back, but with Kabak being less reliable and AO and Sorensen also out for a less specified duration we could do without any more injuries.

Truly a shame. He put in, what, 2-3 excellent performances earlier on and has since been almost completely sidelined. So much potential in that lad. It does make it a lot better that Zimmerman is back and available.

Reading between the lines there is a nice, upbeat tone to Deano's presser. I think he's enjoying this run and the players are too!

I think there is little doubt that Kabak won't be joining us permanently next season whichever League we find ourselves in.

I still think he’s got something about him, could be an excellent player, glimpses show he’s good, but he’s another with at least one mistake in him per game, get that out of his game could be a very good cd. Might be worth extending the loan next year in the Championship.

He must be on reasonably high wages i would imagine and even if Zimmo leaves as well i would rather we bought an oven ready Championship CB to go with Hanley, Gibson and Omo.

I predicted another defensive crisis on the thread about not making any January transfers. It’s utterly predictable we’ll be in that mess again.

What about Byram?  6ft and an exceptionally good footballer. I'm sure he'd be good enough for the Championship at centre half but I still think we might survive 🤞

I agree, I think if he settled into our team in the Championship, he could be a very good player.

He is another who has had to adjust (or, to be fair, readjust) to the Prem in a team at the bottom of the league, that can't be easy. He looks very impressive when he runs out of defence with the ball, sure he is going to lose it at times but he will also set up a lot of opportunities.

Having said all that, I suspect that the wages might be too much for us if we do go down.

These press conferences are full of the same old managerial waffle.I just want to know the who is fit or who isn't and the current state  of any injured players.

Actually, DF and DS have both been pretty good and quite interesting.

One snippet that I missed earlier is that the officials apparently owned up to having missed the offside in Everton’s goal the other week. Fair play to them, but also somewhat annoying as I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t have been quite as frantic (and maybe Krul wouldn’t have been injured) has it stayed at 2-0.

Clever you!!

we currently have 5 even without using Byram and Sorensen. How many do you think we need?

Would you be comfortable playing Zimmerman and Kabak? Didn’t think so. It’s poor recruitment.

I humbly beg to differ, at least this week. I thought it was interesting to hear Deano say that he and Shakey are encouraging more of a dialogue with the squad, and the players are starting to get more involved in discussions about how the team plays. A clear difference to Farke who told the players how it was going to be, and froze them out if they didn’t like it.

I’d be more ok with an argument that having five CBs is poor recruitment. But given Zimbo‘s recent injury record, and Andy O’s only relatively recent emergence it’s understandable in this case.

Zimmerman is clearly fifth in the queue at the moment, so no, I obviously wouldn’t be OK if we had to play what is, on paper, our weakest player in that position. Especially with Kabak who is probably third or fourth pick, and, as several others have said, seems to have at least one moment a game when he switches off. But if we had to name a starting 11 with Placheta and Tzolis I wouldn’t be comfortable either. Is that poor recruitment too? Or is it all just the best recruitment we could manage on our budget?

Good presser from a good man manager.

( sees every challenge as an opportunity).

(A group that weren't used to being asked questions are now a lot more vocal and thats good he says 👏).

It's a challenge,  but we have no fear.

Top team Deano and Shakey. It would seem all good 👍 in the 🏕 camp.

He's praying for a few more so that his doom laden prediction will be proved right.

I agree with this. People don't realise he's still only 21. He's played in the top English league, German league, champions League and 13 games for his country. He had glandular fever in the autumn and that can take ages to get over. He may not fully recover this season.

It's absolutely that I'd say. I'm sure I remember the majority of folk being pleased when Kabak was signed, and it looked like a pretty decent stable of centre halves in terms of what we can afford.

Kabak is a fascinating one. He clearly has a lot of ability but he seems to currently lack the mental discipline to be either a centre back or a CDM. His decision-making is often poor and seems to depend more on a rush of blood to the head than anything else. He has the body and skill-set of a young defender, but the erratic mentality of a young winger. He still is very young, though, and I think there's an excellent player in there somewhere if he's willing to learn and develop. Personally I'd keep him on the books if we can.

Fair enough. Its interesting to know that they didn't have a much of a voice at meetings but if I am honest I am amazed that they didn't.Surely the point of attending any meeting after an event,or any meeting for that matter, is the opportunity to voice an opinion.I don't think Farke was any different from every other manager in that he told them how he wanted them to play and the roles they would have in the system.I seem to recall posters praising his man management when he dealt with the Buendia/Cantwell  situation. There are a lot of high profile managers that have frozen players out for their attitudes,Ferguson,Jose and Pep will most definitely have done it.

I don't need to be told that all players want to play, that they need to be motivated,to up their game.To me that is a given in each and every game. The reference to Grealish in the video told us nothing we didn't already know or think. There was nothing of interest.

On the other hand the revelation that the officials apologised for the mistake in allowing the Everton goal was interesting. The fact that we won makes the fact somewhat less annoying than if we had drawn or even lost although I am not sure whether that would have come to light had that been the case.
