cambridgeshire canary 7,798 Posted February 10, 2022 (edited) So what went wrong here? I mean I'm not complaning but is this the worst Penalty ever taken at Carrow Road? Any other contenders you can think off? Credit to Gunn though pretty sure even Zaha had been on target he would have saved it Edited February 10, 2022 by cambridgeshire canary

hepphep 175 Posted February 10, 2022 Groundskeeper might have earned a valid claim for MOM there, for preparing the penalty spot area just perfectly!
keelansgrandad 6,680 Posted February 10, 2022 He used to play for Corinthian Casuals while he was studying at Harrow and Oxford and his genuine admiration of fair play could not let him score. Rather than take the slight chance that if he tapped it slowly, Gunn may still have missed it, his mind acted quicker than a Halidon Collider and he tapped it slowly wide of the goal. When he was at home late in the day, finally managing to listen to the string quartet his wife had hired for the evening, he managed to tell his guests of the anguish he faced trying to explain to Patrick Viera that he wans't the useless cnut he was accused of being. Monty13 2,736 Posted February 10, 2022 I think it’s the worst penalty I’ve ever seen personally, not just against us.

dylanisabaddog 6,146 Posted February 10, 2022 According to the commentator on BT Zaha complained to the referee about the state of the pitch. BT put the camera on the penalty spot and decided it looked fine.

Christoph Stiepermann 1,261 Posted February 10, 2022 Just about sums Zaha up. Does something where he looks like he should be starting for Man City every week then follows it up almost immediately with some sunday league stuff. Still a top quality player though and I find it equally confusing and irritating that Palace have managed to keep him as long as they have

The penalty miss couldn't have happened to a nice, more deserving player. 1
king canary 8,757 Posted February 10, 2022 Worst one I remember was the Hoolahan 'paneka' attempt- can't remember who we were playing. Away from home I remember being in the away end at Brentford when one of their players put on into the top tier. Then there is the horrific memory of Sutch in Cardiff... TheGunnShow 7,377 Posted February 10, 2022 (edited) Yann Kermogant's penalty in the play-off semi-finals. And it inspired a thoroughly brilliant p-isstake of Bonnie Tyler's song Total Eclipse of the Heart. Some hilarious lyrics in it. "As I watched my TV screen, I was sure that he'd have ripped it, Could not believe what I had seen When the stupid w-anker chipped it!" Honourable mention to that Bristol City striker who lobbed a Panenka clean over the bar against us last season. TheGunnShow 7,377 Posted February 10, 2022 Oh yeah, that Bristol City penalty I mentioned came at around 1:32 on this. The whole video's worth watching though, if only for THAT Buendia touch and then the bit when Sörensen tries channelling his inner Zimbo and gives a penalty away in the process.

Although he benefitted from a 5 year contract (wiki) he was a complete flop at Old Trafford and eventually found his way back to Selhurst Park via the loan system. He had also previously earned two full England caps, but nothing further came of that either. Seems that he is only comfortable in the Palace shirt. Unusual career path, especially as he's clearly a top talent.
Greavsy 2,645 Posted February 10, 2022 Didnt his move to Arsenal break down too? I think he excels at being big fish in a small pond.

Unusual career path, especially as he's clearly a top talent. Very much a 'hot and cold' player and his perfomance against us summed him up well. He has the ability to tear most teams defenses apart and can score amazing world class goals.. As again, he did against us last night. But on the other hand he often seems to get lazy, slows down and just seems to not care as much as he should.. And his penelty attempt summed that up well. End of the day though credit to him for sticking to Palace when many top 6 teams seem to be linked with him season after season, and unlike Grealish at Villa who went from being a superstar in a team of average players to a superstar in a team full of better superstars Zaha seems to be happy with being a superstar at Palace.
