Liverpool hire mental health therapist to deal with abuse

Recommended Posts

I recall a match I played in at uni many years ago. It was against what would be termed our local rivals and I was taking some vicious stick from the "supporters" on the touchline because I had long hair. It wasn't particularly bothering me but as I went over to receive a throw in from my "hard man" midfield colleague this bloke really laid into me with what would these days be called homophobic abuse. My team mate hesitated, put the ball on the ground, walked over and, without saying a word, just decked him. He got sent off. I didn't get any more abuse. We won 3-0 with 10 men and I scored two. After the game the bloke came into the bar to apologise, sporting a very swollen nose and a blackening eye.

My point being, abuse didn't start with the internet; the method of dealing with it has changed though.
