Why no PL fixtures on 29th Feb

Recommended Posts

I  am sure there is a logical explanation however would appreciate one.  We play Watford on 21st and Wolves jn FA cup on 5th Feb but not on 29th.  This is genuine query so if a simple answer, excuse the clottishness.  Can we avoid the usual comedic musings from the usual suspects, I know this is unlikely to deter the jokesters but you can only  hope.

With England not facing another international break until March, fans are now questioning why there is no Premier League football from the 24th January to the 7th February.

While the weekend beginning 4th Febwill see a number of clubs compete in the FA Cup, the weekend prior to that will be seen as a ‘winter break’ for the top tier sides.

An extra international weekend was added to the calendar this year - From what I understand it's largely because COVID caused the rescheduling/postponement of quite a few World Cup qualifiers over the past 2 years and we're running out of time to get caught up. UEFA is done bar the ridiculous playoffs/Nations League backdoor nonsense so no European ties but all the other confederations still have multiple rounds of qualifiers to go. CONCACAF teams (So I guess potentially Sargent if he gets selected for the USA) have three games over that period!

Thanks for the info, gratefully none of the well known Norwich humour.  Yes only just realised should have been Jan not Feb.  Hope we can get more bodies back by Wolves.

Thanks

Surely it would be an ideal opportunity to fulfill some of those Covid/injury related cancelled matches.

Yes, does seem really weird they're not doing that. By definition any team that has had games postponed has already had a break

I know Dean Smith disagrees about using the date as catch up. He thinks it's unfair to postpone a game at a busy time then get to play it at a comfortable time. I tend to agree with him.

I think the 29th was earmarked for a mid season break.

when should they play the games required to catch up then? Particularly those teams with a lot to make up.
