*****The Official Lapps Match Thread v Watford (PL) *****

Recommended Posts

I said I wanted to see how we dealt with a fast, physical side who like to run with the ball before I started to believe we could survive again. Turns out we're just as hopeless as always, men v boys and it'll be the same when we play Palace after the break.

Every time we play this lot it's just torturous to watch, just so frustrating and irritating watching them dominate us physically and us just having no answer

Tbh the tide had turned before McLean came on - Idah and Pukki are getting nothing out of the Watford defence so it's just coming straight back.

But we are still well in the game, not sure why people are quite so angry...

Its difficult to argue that we aren't the poorest side in this league. An ok start but getting progressive ly worse.

Unbelievable the difference the forced sub has made to that game. All us for 20 minutes then we lose Sorenson for McLean and we're a different team.

Is Sorenson that good? Or is McLean that bad?

Neither. Watford just have greater quality on the ball and physically are far stronger. They took a while to get started but then took control

Pukki absolutely abysmal. Needs hooking at HT.

All the best. Big Keith S.

For once I agree, he is totally off the pace, must be sick , covid?

Not quite sure what's happened there. Have Watford just settled on have we run out of steam?

Pukki and Rashica are probably our two best players on the ball but we dont seem to be able to get them on it. Sargent has looked a lot more focussed in recent games, would like to see him come back into the game.

Game of two halves and all that. Likely to be different after the break (he says in hope)

Odd one but the extra man in midfield for them is hurting us especially with Dennis looking dangerous. Difficult one to change with limited options on the bench. I’d be tempted with Bryam for Teemu or Idah.

Fact is

That was an awful last 30 mins…

They were all too slow

They were all too weak

None wanted to get stuck in

none won an aerial ball apart from the centre half’s.

No quality, long balls aren’t going to work against this lot.  Have to get it on the deck and play with movement, intensity and bravery - just nothing there!

Missing the point entirely that he did and wasn’t - you could say the same about any challenge anywhere.  Dennis is lucky to be on the pitch after that dive straight after.

Agreed about Dennis, but Lees-Melou jumped in with two feet, and you just can't do that nowadays. He took a big, big risk.

Confidence visibly drained around 25 minutes, now panicking, sitting deep, standing off, launching long and generally looking devoid of ideas. Too many having a bad game to sort with substitutes so formation change needed

Yeah was a howler, any contact made with Dennis and it’s a red (ball won or not)

Different team since Sorensen gone off! If anyone noticed but Sorensen played just in front of the entire back line covering all the runners, giving Lees more freedom! since McLean came on, he’s taken on the he’s taken the left side and Lees now further back on the right, we’ve now lost that connection between front and back! Different team. Shows just how good Sorensen is to this set up!

Gary Neville as usual with nothing good to say about us. What a waste of a microphone.

He's said nothing of Dennis' dive and possibly 2nd yellow as expected.

Well not really anything good TO say is there? After a decent first 10-15 we've been utter crap

What is he supposed to say. Norwich are brilliant!! Because they aren’t!! In fact very very very poor!

We're back to looking so vulnerable every time someone runs at us.  The central midfield is just so soft but we don't have any other option unless we fancy trying Kabak in there?

This for me. Been saying it for a while. Nothing to lose.

What good do you have to say about that first half really? We’ve looked a shambles since 20 minutes

It certainly seems the balance went out of the midfield after the change

Sorensen was linking well with Williams on the left, we lost that when he went off.....when Mclean got booked he was in the inside right position!  Sorensen was definitely doing a good job out there on the left side.

Exactly this. Lees-Melou was knicking balls further up the pitch, now he’s playing virtually on his own box.

As a result we have to lump it long clear and Pukki/Idah getting outmuscled.

Turned when sorenson got injured tried to play on for 5 mins before McLean came on so rot had already started. Feel bad for the lad as he was playing well before

We do have some options on the bench, just whether they improve the team.

Back 5 with Kabak perhaps? Bit of muscle? Think Tzolis or Placheta would just be bullied. Not a game for Rowe. Possibly Giannoulis might help.

boring 1st half... Will take that though. Just need to fluke a goal from somewhere. Prepared for a bit of Hughtonball if that's what it takes
