Soccer Rumours

Recommended Posts

Please find latest rumours re NCFC on Soccer Rumours, first on here for some time.

The Norwich City board have given Nigel Worthington until the end of the season to turn things around. There are targets regarding final position and if reached he will stay (probably). The board have also agreed to fund a larger squad for next season after their attempt to get by on one of the smallest squads in the division has backfired. NW warned against this decision pre-season and he has been proved right with injuries causing major problems with an unsettled side low on confidence. Worthington has taken the brunt of the supporter''s anger and has not (yet) suggested that it was the board going against his wishes that has resulted in such a poor season. This is why the board are giving him their full support, he is their ''protector''. The squad are also aware of this situation which is why they too have always come out in support of their manager. The only way City kept Dean Ashton was to offer him a huge increase (reputed to be almost 50%) but he went anyway. Expect an influx of lower league players in the summer as money will be very tight. Players currently being looked at are Coke (Mansfield), St Leger (Peterborough), Halford (Colchester), and two right wingers (unknown).

Newcastle summer transfers
Matty Talyor 5m
Jonathan Woodgate 6m
swp 10m
kuyt 9m

Norwich are going to stick with Worthington until the end of the season, as a mid table finish looks likely. The board will then move for Mark Bowen, who will then appoint his long time pal, Ian Crook as his assistant.

What position has Board has deemed will be acceptable 7th or 17th, lower seems more likely.  If Squad aware perhaps they do not have the collective ability to do anything about it or they just don''t care.

Lokking forward to seeing a Bowen/Crook management team, we might not be successful but can be expected to see some football played at last.

This is a suggestion which I''ve posted on here several times, pete. I''m not claiming it as gospel truth (the support is off a rumours board, after all!), but it just seemed to make sense, following on from Worthy''s original pre-season comments about squad size and his ambitions to sign players in August.I doubt Worthy would try to shift the blame at this late stage of the season - it would be seen as a last, desperate attempt to get on with the fans - and the backlash from an embarrassed Board of Directors could be the final nail in his coffin.Opinion is divided as to the impact of injuries (90 and counting?) on a team already demoralised by relegation. Our best periods of results have, however, followed from the times we''ve been able to select the same eleven starters for more than two games in a row (hardly ever this season).Like you, I''d be interested to see what Bowen and Chippy could do with Norwich. Bowen has only ever been involved as an assistant thus far, whilst Crooks achievements as manager have failed to impress. Perhaps the reversal of roles would suit them both, it would be quite a gamble. I suspect 7th, or 8th is the target now (and probably the third target this season!), a challenge to the current team, but still achievable. Whether it would save the manager''s skin? I''m not sure.

The bowen/crook one sounds very intersting

but the first one sounds more likely

IT sounds rather like our board, very quite and hiding behind everyone else, wouldnt be at all supprised if that is the real story, but i still want worthy out, even with a full squad he cant make the right decisions

I wouldn''t be surprised if they''ve given him to the end of the season and longer depending on final league position. I bet it''s something lame like - ''finish in the top half of the table and you''re in charge for at least five more seasons!''
