Now Thorne has gone mad...

Recommended Posts

He has joined Fleming by saying that it is not impossible on reaching the play-offs. I give him 10 out of 10 for optimism, and also for imagination. I think it is fair to say we are playing for pride now, but I''m just wondering what all your thoughts are on 2 Norwich players saying that we can still make the play-offs?

Perhaps they think that there are play offs for relegation like there are in scotland i think. Where the 2 bottom side plays the 2nd placed side from the division below. So perhaps thorne, fleming and worthy are aiming for a money spinning tie with colchester to decide whether we play in the championsip or league 1 next season.

I wouldn''t be suprised if Fleming and Thorne have said it because Worthy keeps telling them that they can get there. It''s just optimism on the part of Worthy. I bet in Worthy''s eyes we can make the playoffs but I would say his view on the situation is bias and clouded!

in the mid 80''s when the playoffs were first introduced to England they did Exactly that! had a "relegation/promotion Playoff... infact its quite the norm on the continent too...

I like our playoff format however... its nerve wracking and exciting.. i wouldnt fancy our chances playing off for promotion against someone like Pompey if they were coming down etc

jas :)

Even if we did reach the playoffs I don''t fancy our chances of winning through! Still I''d welcome the chance to try!! I think Thorne is being a bit over optimistic (very!!) but good to see the players are trying to stay positive!

It''s not really what Thorne thinks (or Flemming for that matter), it''s the NCFC PR machine spinning into action.

But he is right.

It isn''t impossible. If you take what he has said literally.

What he hasn''t said is that it isn''t probable.

Don''t mock the man for being optomistic. Even if it is unrealistic. Some people need a dream. Some of us are more practicle.

He is just trying to give some people a branch. Nothing wrong with that. It extends peoples intrest.

........not entirely off his rocker - how about a precedent?

See below for our 81/82 promotion season:

English Division 2 (old)             Cambridge

      1-2       Norwich

          03-04-1982

English Division 2 (old)             Norwich

English Division 2 (old)             Leicester

         1-4       Norwich           01-05-1982

English Division 2 (old)             Norwich

          2-1       Grimsby           05-05-1982

English Division 2 (old)             Norwich

          2-0       Leyton Orient   08-05-1982

Culminating in our final game:

English Division 2 (old)             Sheff

Wed        2-1       Norwich           15-05-1982

A glorious run of 10 wins from our final 12 games. If we can

replicate that seasons final 12 games we''ll finish on 76 points which should be enough

for the play-offs.

*wibble*

It seems the spin machine may have a point....

I don''t know what you expect him to say. I for one would be even more jarred if I knew that they had ACTUALLY thrown in the towel and given up. And I''m sure most other people would as well.

judging by how he played today he looked like a playoff teams player, well done to him nice to see a good performance from the lad

personally, i certainly think its very unlikely, but am i the only one who remembers the 1-0 defeat towards the end of our play off season, when basically everyone gave up the playoffs as a lost cause...and what happened in the end?

NEVER give up until its mathematically impossible. its against the very spirit of football.
