Danbury Yellow 126 Posted December 27, 2021 It’s the hope that kills you (well it’s still the case with me). Thought I’d take at a glance of what remains just to confirm what I think we all know: Home: The must wins…… Everton, Palace, Burnley, Brentford, Newcastle. Home: The guaranteed defeats…… Man City, Spurs, Chelsea. Home: A good point….. West Ham. Away: The must wins Watford, Leeds, Away: The guaranteed defeats….. Leicester, Villa, Liverpool, Man U, West Ham. Away: A good point….. Palace, Southampton, Brighton, Wolves. So I appreciate that 26 points is massively unlikely, but, these are probably (just my simple opinion) the points we are fighting for to give some context and therefore a total of 36 points. Conclusion: 36 points keeps us up. Will we get 36……not a chance……but it’s the hope, and that’s why I still care about this season. OTBC.
Ulfotto 623 Posted December 27, 2021 (edited) I wrote a post similar to this awhile back basically we need to win every winnable game at home and draw all the ones away from home. I fear we will soon start needing “snookers” points from games we expect nothing from. There is hope but that is all there is. GodlyOtsemobor 2,249 Posted December 27, 2021 Doubtful... We need 3 or 4 quality players in January to give us a chance but A: we won't spend the money needed to get anyone in with the quality and B: those players won't want to join a team sleepwalking towards relegation anyway. Maybe throwing some cash at a couple tough, bullish championship players who want to give the prem a crack for a few months and possibly get cult hero status here for having a hand in a miracle survival is the way forward. Who knows 🤷♂️😂

Jambomo 215 Posted December 27, 2021 I still think so. Getting back all the players that have been out will make a huge difference, the general play but especially the defending, was a lot better in some of Smith’s earlier games. Few PL teams can lose the number of first team players we have and not suffer badly.

lake district canary 4,531 Posted December 27, 2021 It feels to me that we have reached the lowest point in team morale and we will now see who is up for the battle. Placheta for one imo, but we need more than one player. So tomorrow is a very important game in the season for that reason. Another abject display though, will mean the players have nothing left to offer. Win and we are back in the hunt....but a win would be totally unexpected. And right now, with the crap we’ve been playing, I can’t see where another 2 pts will come from! I’m part joking but equally I don’t think we’ll beat our last Premier League score in this real life FIFA set on impossible mode.

I just checked the fixtures and hand on heart every single team in the PL are better than us. We are nearly half way through the season and to have just 10 points is too embarrassing to think about. The other teams teams around us like Watford, Newcastle, Leeds and Burnley aren't great PL teams but they are more capable than us and will collect more points. I think the players know they are not good enough. Very poor effort from the recruitment team, should have got sacked for being incompetent.

I am sure they will but then they may be hit with the injuries etc. I am not saying we will do it, only that I still think there is a chance. The main thing is to try and not get too far adrift of the other teams whilst having this period of so many players out.
East Rider 548 Posted December 27, 2021 Not a chance. Sometimes to look at the near future you just need to look at our recent past. Leicester Home: Poor performing opposition who were seriously struggling, we should have taken at least a point **** Away: poorest they have been all season, should have taken a point. Couldn't manage it Watford at Home: Taught us a lesson, part one only as we have to go to theirs, god help us. Leeds at Home: An injury plagued squad low on confidence, couldn't take our chances should have won. Wolves Home: Dominant performance for some part, couldn't take our chances. should have won Newcastle Away: Poorest team we have faced and yet again we produce a poor team effort and individual mistakes. Should have won Man U Home; Couldn't take our chances, we should have taken a point. These are the team we SHOULD have done better against as we faced them when they were at their poorest for a variety of reasons. That we failed on every occasions should answer this question posed by the OP. Simply put, the least points (being extremely conservative with this) we should have taken against those teams was an extra massive 10. We can not afford to throw away games, like Newcastle, Wolves etc and expect to get away with it. And get away with it, we won't.

Ian 1,129 Posted December 27, 2021 8 goals all season. Perhaps we can somehow win 8 games 1-0, despite being on course to concede 80 goals this season. I'm not hopeful.

Agreed, and very valid, we never appear to get the expected win or take our chance. My major concern with Daniel was that he was unable to inspire belief for these occasions, but this issue still remains a major problem, along with a lack of squad depth. We did turn it around against Southampton though!
