Not yet, but we must resist the urge to have endless control of our lives.

Some seem desperate to give up all freedoms. Weak people. Like that guy on here that’s obsessed with Facebook and me.

Why do you consider me weak ? I have indicated that vaccines and treatments should stand up to the virus, but only if you follow the scientific advice and have further jabs as and when required. No one forces you to top up its your choice, and it’s not my fault if you don’t follow the advice that other countries ban you.

As well as working the vaccine sites I sometimes work the COVID wards ( more in care homes as a volunteer when they had break outs ). First time I did it I was terrified, but I overcame that weakness. The weakest I hear about is the unvaccinated who when admitted to the wards beg for the vaccines, now that’s what I call weak not sticking to your principles to the bitter end.

Buh - if you're comparing this, as you appear to be, to the actions of the N azis in WW2, then you've clearly lost any sense of perspective. You don't even have to have been given the vaccine to enter the ground - just prove that you are not carrying the virus and can therefore not make others ill. Not a lot to ask, really.

I'll gladly stand with you if they start forcing people to have jabs against their will but this is just asking you to look after your fellow supporter by making sure you aren't ill yourself.

I know it annoys you mate but I’m double vaccinated. I’m not an anti-vaxxer and never have been. I’d just like this nightmare to end where as some would like it to continue forever.

Who?

There’s a certain section of society that are turned on by authoritarianism. Whether it’s right or left on the spectrum. They love to be told what to do. It’s why these types of cult of personality type situations happened in the 20th century. There’s a lot of people that:

> Have monetised covid and desperately need it to continue

> Are so apathetic they just want the world to burn

> Didn’t have anything going on before lockdown (lost brexit, lost to Boris, lost Corbyn…) so this way of life is actually an improvement for them

>Now have the incessant need to feel “safe” in all situations and suggesting anything less than their total safety is an act of violence against them. Disregarding that this has a hugely detrimental effect on people around them, like the stunted development of children (https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-impact-of-lockdown-on-childrens-development-will-last-for-years-and-years-12500806)

Youll see people fight to keep this going before the end, trust me. They’ll demand we keep vaccine passports forever, shut the country down with 5 people in hospital, restrict movement of those not deemed pure enough. It’s going to get tasty.

Multiply that world over. The environmental impact will kill more people than the virus itself.

The world is producing more single use plastic than ever before.

Don’t even get me started on the masks. 129 billion being disposed of globally every month. It’s estimated that there are billions in the oceans

Look, I’m not asking you lot to break away from being generic “garden variety” socialists with opinions so basic, so benign, it’s like you’re a Chinese tennis player and you’re being instructed in what to think. I’m just asking if you could maybe have a an attempt at a nuanced opinion and not label anyone who isn’t kissing Stalins rear with a copy of the guardian inserted in every orifice as someone who is so far right they’ve had to invent a new part of the political spectrum graph to contain their outrageous opinions.

Maybe read a history book about the horrors of the 20th century and how they started as well, you might learn something.

There is a ‘Dr’ on Twitter that spends every day peddling the fear and promoting mask wearing in all situations. Even when the mask mandate was dropped she is there peddling the fear and promoting them. At the same time she also has a nice little side venture going that she uses her platform to promote. Any guesses? Yep, she sells ‘designer’ masks…..This virus has become an entire industry and there will be many that won’t be prepared to let that meal ticket go

It won't end, it will just change. At the moment, the best we can all do is follow advice and get the third jab - and 4th, 5th 6th if necessary.   Immunity will improve as time goes on and the hope is that the virus will all but disappear eventually - or at least be inneffective because we have all built up enough immunity.

Your desire to see it end is understandable, but you have to see beyond conspiracies and people exploiting the situation and do whatever is needed.  If vaccine passports are deemed necessary, it is because we have people who are in denial about the virus and who would rather think it's all some kind of conspiracy.

King Basic B1tch here…

Name one conspiracy theory I’ve talked about. I’m not saying the vaccines don’t work, genius, I’m questioning if this is the way we want to run society, with strict controls and constant vaccination.

All the while childrens  development and education suffer, we get more fractured as a society and mentally Ill as a society, businesses close. Peoples dreams ended. The current generation denied opportunities you were

All for more and more control and safety for some. Those advocating that should think about the 3 year olds that can’t communicate as well because they haven’t been socialised while they hide in their homes. Selfish.

A sensible post, along with those by Well b back. I have thought all along mask-wearing should have been compulsory in all areas of the ground apart from when seated, and that attendance should have been limited to those vaccinated.

Omicron may be milder, although there is a fair amount of straw-clutching about that at the moment on the back of not that much data or context. But the decision not to bring in tougher measures for Christmas illustrates how dangerously political is the decision-making of the Johnson government.

The reality is that even if the data had clearly indicated such a lockdown was necessary Johnson was never going to sanction it, because he is entirely at the mercy of the crazies in his party. It would have triggered the Defenestration of Downing Street, and he knew that.

And now, him having put off the Xmas decision to avoid making that decision, these mad people are pressing him to 'Save New Year'. All the way through Johnson has mainly either in effect made decisions by prevaricating so long that delay had made the decision, or fudged the rules, rather than making them clearcut, and with 'shoulds' rather than 'musts'.

An example from the first lockdown was that you could drive an unspecified 'reasonable distance' to go for a walk. And the police found one couple 100 miles away from their home! Who said as far as they were concerned that was a reasonable distance to drive for a stroll in the countryside...

Re masks, I had an email last night (this is a true story) from a poet who was recently on a shortlist of three for a national poetry award, and went along to the reception. About 50 people in a room only just large enough to accommodate 50 people. And despite advice (rather than rules) on wearing masks indoors the only people wearing them were the catering staff, and himself. And a few days later he received an email saying one of the maskless had got covid and so everyone at the event had to self-isolate.

Who told him he had to self-isolate? You don't even have to self-isolate if someone in your house has it, unless it's confirmed Omicron and that only became the case in the past week or two.
