A goal must be given to Arsenal

Recommended Posts

Why should they, keeper feigning injury to stop the game! It’s just what’s needed to stop players going down easy.

I must admit after seeing Ronaldo last weekend clearly offside goes on to take the shot which was deflected for a corner and because the Lino kept his flag down the corner was awarded, Ronaldo played to the rules and so have Arsenal! Tough!

Perfectly good goal, can't disallow it because Fred's a ****. De Gea should be embarrassed curling up in the fetal position over that.

Arsenal would have been rightly livid if that was disallowed.

Yep, De Gea should have been withdrawn by Carrick.  What an embarrassment!  He definitely feigned injury and tried to play the ref.  That should end his career at ManUre, Theoklatis like!

How the F is that a penalty?

Jeez - that is F soft !

Commentators are all over it saying it’s clear cut. I think he planted his leg back to make sure it’s there

I might be wrong but believe VAR check every goal in this instance it’s which player caused De Gea’s dying swan act, as it was his own player then quite rightly the goal stood

The first goal was hilarious and correctly given. Too many players make a meal of the slightest contact. I've no doubt being trod on with studs is a bit painful but not painful enough that you can't play to the whistle and assume the foetal position!

VAR showing in one game the great benefit to it and then the absolute farce.

First goal rightly given, players need to stop trying to con the referee and VAR. Far far too many times, even with VAR there are decisions not given that are blatant cheating/penalties etc. only this week, Rondon had his shirt virtually ripped off his back - no on field decision, no VAR. Was clear as day live and even more so on replay. If the bar is set that high for contact in the box (or anywhere on the pitch) then there needs to be consistency…which nicely brings up the next incident…

The penalty decision was farcical. How many times are we going to hear that VAR is for clear and obvious errors only for this basic rule to be completely ignored. The referee clearly saw the incident and felt it wasn’t a penalty. We’ve also been told that referees have been told to be more lenient with challenges and not all contact is a foul. The fact there is a strong case for Fred deliberately trying to win the penalty should be more than enough doubt for VAR to contemplate overturning the on field decision. But no, we get the pathetic ‘go and have a look at the monitor’ which just pressurises the referee into overturning his decision - even when there isn’t enough evidence to overturn their original decision. If Atkinson had originally given the pen, then fair enough, stick with the decision. But he saw it and decided no. Is there enough evidence to say he got it wrong?

But it was a blatant penalty. From every angle that was such an easy decision to give.

Atkinson was invited to check the monitor simply to concur with the VAR official.

Of course Fred is waiting for and wants the contact, but Odegaard slides in from behind the player and gets no ball. There’s no other decision to make.

To be fair to Atkinson, in real time from where he was stood he probably couldn't see Fred's leg get absolutely mullered by Odegaard's tackle. But that's the whole idea of VAR, it can look at things from other angles that the ref might have missed, as in this case. Yes Fred probably purposely left his foot there but in the modern game that's a very clear penalty
