KeiranShikari 1,524 Posted December 4, 2021 I'm pretty sure Reece Hall-Johnson was at my school. He was in the same crop of youth players here as the Murphy twins, Harry Toffolo, Cam McGeehan and Carlton Morris. Going off last season's stats it looks like he's a handy player over at Wrexham.
splendidrush 720 Posted December 4, 2021 (edited) Was in the same year as Mark Walsh who had a brief career in Motorcycle racing...... his younger brother Paul played football with us in the playground. Two years later he made his debut at Charlton, went on to Luton then Liverpool and England, before returning to London with Tottenham...... I like to think that I had a hand in his development 😎 As for the Alvin Stardust post, back in '85 I shared digs with former Iron Maiden frontman, Paul Di'Anno ✊ Edited December 4, 2021 by splendidrush

If wed kept Howie.. 298 Posted December 4, 2021 On 02/12/2021 at 15:50, TeemuVanBasten said: In football? Or other sports? And was it a surprise? There were a few at my school who came very close in football, one who played a season or two at a just about pro level and got himself a wikipedia entry... .. but my school must have a terrible record for football, as I can't think of anybody at all that had a proper career in pro sports. The one who played a season or two though, I do sometimes look at him and wonder what the difference was between him and Gary Doherty or Michael Nelson, and it must have been mental or something else he did wrong because I doubt it was technical or physical. Can the OP clarify - do you mean Professional or Prostitute? because my answers are drastically different..
Felixfan 53 Posted December 4, 2021 I forgot that I also worked with John Greatrex a great goalkeeper who also kept wicket for Norfolk.

rock bus 1,054 Posted December 5, 2021 Dave Phillips was football coach at my sons school. Bit disappointed that even though my son wore his Norwich top to training every week he didn’t once comment on it.
Tetteys Jig 851 Posted December 5, 2021 (edited) Johnny McLaughlin the Scotland goalie. Remember him being class at penalty saves but never thought he'd make it pro. Edited December 5, 2021 by Tetteys Jig

It was a bizarre experience seeing him get subbed on in a Premier League game against Boro, back in 2004. Obviously never worked out for him here but he had an interesting career in the lower leagues. Another guy from the same school, and year, became a professional coach at Sheffield United, but never made it as a professional himself. I went to Caister too, a few years younger than Danny though. Mr Angry 1,983 Posted December 6, 2021 I went to a grammar school, where we weren't allowed to play football-except in the playground-until 5th form, so no old boys have ever made it in football-we did have a former sports master who became president of FIFA though. The other most famous former pupils include a couple of actors, comedians, a pornographer/football club owner, a punk singer/guitarist, a Britpop singer, a current Secretary of State, a rugby World Cup winner and a couple of former CEOs (McDonalds and Adidas). I was in the same form for 5 years as a lad who was an occasional member of the band Soho and is now apparently one of the most important figures in international contemporary art. And my best friend at school won £64,000 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in December 2000.
spencer 1970 214 Posted December 6, 2021 I was in the same year as Mark Fiore (Plymouth), who made it as a pro', alongside Andy Lloyd (Charlton Youth captain/RiP 1987/8), and Justin Delo (Arsenal Youth) which was pretty impressive that they were all in the same school team. We won the London Cup and got to the Final of the Schools cup. Sadly, the best of the bunch Andy died in a car crash at 17/18, not due to the crash but because he had an asthma attack from the shock, horrible and tragic but amazing that an Asthmatic could go that far in footy. He also swam for London. RiP. At my primary school both Justin and Andy played for the 4th year team as 2nd years. So talented. Lord knows what happened to Delo? Fair play to Fiore for “making it”…being any level of Pro is a big deal.
Lord Horn (again) 151 Posted December 7, 2021 Like a previous contributor, I went to Paston at the same time as Clive Baker, although he was a couple of years younger than me. A couple of lads in my year played cricket for England U-18s - one of them was also a great keeper (like Clive) and played for the Norfolk Senior team at a very young age - he could have made it as a pro but I think ended up being a Maths teacher! One of my best mates had trials with Orient (when they were in the old Div 2 (Championship for you nippers). I went along with him as his aunt lived in East Ham, so we had a week in London. He did really well (at 15) against the likes of Terry Mancini but by the time Orient got back to him he had already taken a job with a local insurance firm and decided against following the football career up. Always thought he could have made it so I wonder if he has any regrets? (As an aside, was also at Paston at the same time as Tilly who was more reminiscent of Flashman rather than any pro sports person) 😂😂😂
Slim Pickings 7 Posted December 8, 2021 (edited) Yeah, I went to school with Paul Warne, he was in the year above me at North Walsham High. Never saw him play, but I did speak to him once about The Smiths (not Delia and Dean), genuinely, he was a big fan.
