Paul McVeigh - Still no contract offer

Recommended Posts

I realise that this has been mentioned before, but why hasnt McVeigh been given a contract offer yet?

In about 50 minutes of football in the last 3 games he has 2 assists and his hooked cross setup the OG equaliser in the other game!!! I get the impression Worthy realises he isnt going to sign up and so doesn''t want to be embarrassed in public by Paul turning it down.

I truly hope he stays because he would be incredibly difficult to replace.

I doubt he will have any trouble finding a club after the season he has had and am sure he will go on to be a success at another club (unless he signs for a megson/worthy style manager).

Do we know for definite that WLY hasn''t been offered a new contract?  Just because there hasn''t been an official announcement telling us he HAS, doesn''t automatically mean that he hasn''t, does it?  After all, the club don''t have to tell us everything that is going on behind the scenes.......

Maybe he is having troubles finding another club, his current deal ends in the summer which means he could have signed pre-contract terms come January.

Also I beleive that City have the option to extend his current deal by a year if they want to.  They do not have to or need to give him a new deal, just extend his current one.

I was under the impression the club had a year option on his contract and were intending to use it?

Interesting parallel with Marc Delaney at Villa, where a similar one year option is available, apparently in that case they have until March 1st to use it (apparently the player has no say and cant sign a pre contract until that deadline expires) and dont intend to do anything until the deadline, could be the same with McVeigh.

I think it was safris and charlies who had extensions available and we know that safris has been agreed.   Cant recall anything on WLY having an extension and thought he was available for a bosman come June;  as only WLY, safri & hux have given us any consistent creative sparkle this season it would seem bizarre that we would be happy to see our second top scorer leave without so much an attempt to keep him;  If he rejects one as Eddy did then fine thats the players choice but we know how difficult it is to bring in quality replacements at the moment...

well they seemed to be making a news item of the fact worthy wants mcveigh to Earn his new contract... I would ofthought if this sort of news was coming out of carra road they would say when he had been offered it??  unless they already know waht he is going to say.  Rumours abound about McVeigh wanting to head to Spain......

You need to remember that WLY was made available to leave last summer, but found nothing that worked for him - this even included looking overseas I believe.  I suspect this makes the Club feel they have the whip hand in any negotiations, but after his contributions this season (compared to last) then I can''t believe that he wouldn''t find a role in another Championship side (or overseas) if he wanted.

I think you will find that McVeigh will be leaving for pastures new at the end of the season and telling Worthless to stuff any new contract where the sun don''t shine.

I also understand that he wasn''t too happy to be discussed by his Manager at the fans forum at Sheringham recently and felt that should have been said on a one to one basis in private.

If so then quite right.  I am appalled at some of the things Worthy has said recently about his players.  Are we so obsessed with the celebrity culture that normal rules of confidentiality, decency and courtesy - not to mention the requirements of employment law -go out the window?

Of course we want to be informed and the comtractual situation is very important.  But why isn''t WLY entitled to the same process as Saffers that is private negoitation with an announcement at the conclusion that told we fans all we needed - and were entitled- to know.

Having pieced together some of the unspecified rumours on this board over the last few months with the decoder being a comment by Rick Waghorn of all people, I am now convinced that WLY has had enough and am reconciled to his leaving.  I think the first part of what you say City Angel is correct.

Know what?  I have so much regard and respect for WLY that I hope he does leave because I think it would be best for him and he deserves to go where he can flourih.
