Fiery Zac 1,066 Posted November 16, 2021 So what’s Dean Smiths first team selection going to be? Cantwell straight back in? The media darling Gilmour given another opportunity? A back 3/4? Theres so many question marks, well done to anyone who gets in spot on. Krul Aarons Omobamidele Gibson Williams Gilmour Normann PLM Cantwell Pukki Rashica I think I’m still traumatised by the 4-3-3 experiment earlier in the season but this seems to be a way to get Gilmour and Cantwell in the team. I have no idea if they deserve to be back in but on ability (and the noise surrounding them) I think they’ll be picked. The midfield 3 seems fairly balanced, 3 hard working but also creative players that will need to be disciplined and know when to hold back. Our (arguably) best attacking talent starting, we desperately need someone to be playing through balls for Pukki to thrive and the only players I feel confident in ability to do so are Normann and Cantwell. Rashica is improving so should deservedly keep his place. In defence I assume it’ll be whoever isn’t injured/ill. Williams over Dimi as he played well vs Brentford. But who knows. All I know is I can’t wait for Saturday, the atmosphere should be loud and proud. A new era begins. OTBC

Thumbbass 318 Posted November 16, 2021 I do love Farke. But I'm pretty sure we won't see Omo at left back. Sorensen hasn't played a single minute of competitive football so isn't going to start. Would be nice to see him on the bench though and come on to get him up to match fitness in the coming weeks. Krul Aarons Omobamidele Gibson Williams Normann Sorenson Gilmour Tzolis Pukki Rashica Would be really happy if this is the side. There must be something in the Cantwell saga for him to just not be playing at all so Tzolis in is a good shout - we just need some attacking impetus, something for Pukki to feed off. Would love to see Sorenson given a go too but doubt he’ll be thrown straight in..?

Krul Aarons Omobamidele Gibson Williams Normann Sorenson Gilmour Tzolis Pukki Rashica I like this too. I think Gilmour needs 2 defensive midfielders around him. With Scotland, he has McGinn and McTominay, which means he can have more of a free role in the middle of the park.

kenfoggo 247 Posted November 16, 2021 I think Russell Martin outstayed his valid selection timescale under previous Managers and likewise Grant Hanley has been seen by Farke as undroppable. But surely there is no coincidence that our first win of the season at Brentford was gained with Hanley not in the squad. We looked at least as good defensively without him than when he is on the pitch. I wood like to see Hanley given an extended rest period and Omabamidele/ Gison/Kabak given an additional period of selection. There are many new variations that the news boss may try, but blindly selecting Hanley in my mind would be an error.
Samwam27 519 Posted November 16, 2021 9 hours ago, Herman said: Not a million miles from your choice Zac. Krul Aarons Omobamidele Gibson Williams Normann Sorenson Gilmour Tzolis Pukki Rashica I'd go with this assuming it''s a fresh start for everyone. Omo & Gibson had a great game against Brentford so deserve to continue. Sorenson to get his chance and show he has the quality of the defensive midfielder we've been crying out for. Gilmour to transfer his Scotland performances for us. I've gone with Tzolis ahead of cantwell, as Todd isn't match fit but feel Cantwell, Tzolis & Cantwell will fit for these places. Else I'd leave Gilmour out and play Cantwell there
sgncfc 1,221 Posted November 16, 2021 I'd be pretty surprised if there are more than one or two changes from the team that beat Brentford - he may try to fit Gilmore in instead of Maclean. Don't think the back 5 or the front 3 will change. I'd also expect to see Cantwell on the bench if he's fit and to come on for Dowell whatever the score is. Christoph Stiepermann 1,131 Posted November 16, 2021 I had a go but I just can't find a good midfield mix with the players we have. But I don't want to find a space for Rupp, Gilmour, PLM or McLean because they're all just too flawed and make our midfield too easy to play through for the opposition and the no.10 position is still problematic with Dowell not showing much so far and Cantwell being better out wide. This is the best I can think of Krul Aarons Omobamidele Gibson Williams Normann PLM Rashica Dowell Cantwell Pukki Not our best 11 players but I'm trying to get a balanced team. If we play a 433 that means fitting in another of our weak CM's, 352 means no wingers or Rashica played too deep instead of a proper full back, we don't have the athleticism or steel in the middle for a 442 so I don't see many other options than that team.
Don’t be Krul 398 Posted November 16, 2021 Whatever the personnel Dean Smith appears to favour a 4-3-3 formation. But he is not afraid to chuck the youngsters in and include an enforcer. So I wouldn't be surprised to see Sorensen, clean slate and all that. I'd go with: Krul Aarons Kabak Gibson Williams Gilmour Normann PLM Cantwell Pukki Rashica
damn that Ralph Coates! 47 Posted November 16, 2021 Does Smith have complete carte-blanche as the new man? (he won't have seen them all in training, Gilmour might be out injured) - or do you think as he hasn't seen them all train, he gets a whisper in his ear from Webber or Neil Adams etc? in which case we might see some of Webber's recommended signings like Tzolis? And does he inherit the existing team captain initially before he makes any change to that, in which case that existing choice in the team will be a definite pick on Saturday's team sheet? He can't cheese off some of Farke's favourites as soon as he walks in the door? I'm thinking of people like McLean. So although I like some of the suggested teams, is he allowed to be very radical with having had so little exposure to his new squad?
