Frank Lampard is bookies favourite

Recommended Posts

I'd have reservations about Knutsen. I checked Bodo's cup run: Legia Warsaw (valued at 27m euros) did the double over them (1-5) in the first Preliminary Round to the Champions League, and relegated them directly to the  Conference League, where they managed to knock out an Icelandic side (2.7m)  easily, then a Kosovan and a Lithuanian sides (both valued at about 5m E) with some difficulty. (I happened to see both sides in Budapest as both played Ferencváros in the Champs League earlier. They were both extremely poor, Ferencváros sleepwalked over them. - 6-1, 5-1 on agg.) In other words, there's nothing miraculous in knocking these teams out. Then in the Conference League group  Zorya Lugansk, CSKA Sofia and Bodo are valued about the same (15-17 m) a home 3-1 win and an away draw is again not something to write home about, so the only miracle results here are the win and draw against Rome, which I would take with a pinch of salt. Knutsen might be a great coach, but I think he's overhyped on basis of the two matches against Rome, which may have got more to do with Mourinho's attitude towards the ConfLeage than Knutsen's nous.

Any pros?

He took Derby with their mega, rule-breaking budget from 6th in the Championship to, erm, 6th in the Championship actually doing fractionally worse in points than the mighty Gary Rowett, despite having Harry Wilson and Mason Mount at his disposal.

Then when he gets the boot from Chelsea, they suddenly become one of the best teams in Europe.

So, **** person and **** coach. Struggling to see any pros, unless you see getting some praise from ****** in the national media as a plus but frankly I couldn't give a **** what a few stale blokes on MOTD think of us.

Didn't Webber say something about not recruiting d*ckheads? That should rule out Frank Lampard. But then Webber is also the man who said we wouldn't be signing any relegated players as they were damaged goods and only a week ago that Farke was safe.

Surely one big pro of Lampard is he will bring Jody Morris with him who is a fantastic and respected coach. My major criticism of Farke over the years waa was I felt his coaching staff wasn't up to standard.

I'm not feeling the love for Frank Lampard, sorry Frank, fur coat, no knickers. Having said that, he would have an idea or two about decent midfield play which would be the making or breaking of our midfielders. Just one of the issues, but one of the bigger ones.

It does worry me about Lampard, his managerial experience is extremely thin.  Especially at Chelsea with a great squad at his disposal and he struggled.

There seems to be an assumption for many people, including many journos, that someone who's been a top class player will automatically be good as a coach/manager.  But this is nonsense.  Many top class players are top class because of their physical attributes and also their approach to the game can be in many cases largely instinctive, neither of which are any help as a coach.

If you look at the best managers around the world, many of them were pretty average as players.

Mocking American tourists on 12th September 2001 is the top reason. He's an entitled scumbag. A Trump-admiring Tory. And an absolute bell end to boot, as plenty of people who have witnessed him on nights out in the west end will attest.

An absolute grotbag of a human being.

Thanks - I didn't know this.

Having said that, I'd have to live with it. I can hardly moan that a lot of the opposition to the current ownership is politically motivated against "the Suffolk socialists" and then oppose a manager on political grounds!

Like it or not, a lot of people like Trump and Johnson, we can't rule them out as players/ managers/ coaches or indeed future owners.

I'd have to accept an accusation of hypocrisy for sure. But I've been going to Carrow Road pretty much my whole life and whilst it's generally better when we win, it won't ever be results that causes me to turn my back on the club. I'd rather it be a poorly performing club that I can be proud of than a successful club managed by a **** like Lampard and funded by human rights abuse money.

For example, the treatment of Farke pissed me off way more than the no show at Fulham in 2005. The incident when the club went all litigious on a local brewers irked me more than that relegation at Charlton. I can live with the lows on the pitch, it's part of the journey and makes you appreciate the highs more. But I struggle more with the episodes when I'm ashamed of them for non-footballing reasons. It looks like I'm in a dwindling minority to hold this view, even the Norwich fanbase seems to be engulfed in the success at-all-costs, nothing else matters mentality. Although the BK8 fiasco restored a little bit of pride for me, I'm not sure how many other clubs would have faced a backlash like that and a perceived majority of fans wanting a less grubby sponsor regardless of its impact on the transfer budget.

Appointing Frank Lampard would genuinely make me the most depressed I've been as a Norwich fan.

The idea of sacking Daniel Farke and appointing Frank Lampard is ridiculous. Farke is the better manager by a long way.

Personally I cannot see it happening. Lampard is not a Premier League quality manager, he's barely a Championship level manager.

On the list of bookies candidates "Farvre" is about the only one good enough (Roy is good enough but retired).

Exactly, Lampard makes no sense. The only thing he has going for him, bringing through youngsters, Farke had in spades. And continued to given Omobamidele's performances.

Bookies odds are determined by bets made. He started at 6/1 and quickly went to evens which means someone had a big bet or a lot of people had small bets.

Indeed. My point was more that the bookies presumably draw up an initial list every time there is a managerial vacancy and in this case, and that of Villa, they put Lampard and one or two other obvious names on it.

Reading all of these comments and ideas it has clarified my opinions on this issue. It seems obvious but the next coach has to be step up on Farke not sideways. We know that Farke romped the Championship twice. Has Lampard done this? If no then it is a step down. 6th is not Champions.

Those who are spitting out their bran flakes and granary toast and questioning Stu's supposed selection and possible appointment of Lanky Frampard as the next manager, must also be questioning Stu's judgement and the board's agreement if it happens.....Interesting.....What are those who are unhappy about the supposed Lamps appointment going to do about it if does happen?....Probably nothing?.....

I'm not bothered either way, as I impeccably trust Stu's and the board's judgement.....and always have done....'Oh yeah'.....

If they appoint Lampard I will be disappointed and hope my misgivings are wrong.  Any managerial appointment is a bit of a punt.

Just can’t see it being Lampard.  The only reason Webber might go there is to restore a little bit of ‘reputational damage’ as in….big name in world football = Norwich on the rise and grabs credit for some ambition and feel good factor goes well and attitude through club improves short term. Might also attract a better caliber of player in January.  That’s about it for me.

I suspect the selection will be a manager who has delivered relative success in one of the big European leagues, but not an old school type.  I don’t think salary will be an issue, I can see the boat being pushed out for this appointment.  This will be in line with the ‘continual improvement’ message.  Lampard is not an improvement when it comes to managerial success.  I have a feeling it’s going to be relatively impressive, it has to be to replace a much loved man to get the fans on side.
The Norway guy doesn’t fit this plan either….no top level experience, too much risk.

Interesting times.

They're not rating Knutsen as much on his European exploits, but more on what he's done with Bodo/Glimt in Norwegian football.

He's basically done an equivalent of a Ranieri at Leicester when faced with much wealthier teams with far more established pedigrees such as Rosenborg and Molde, and to a lesser extent Valerenga, Brann and Viking. On top of that, he has kept them up there this season and they look like they're about to win the league again. And he's done it whilst selling his best players like Hauge and Zinckernagel this time around.

You're talking about a country where northern Norwegian sides weren't even allowed to get promoted to the Norwegian top flight until 1972. Even now, only three teams from northern Norway have ever played in the top flight. Bodo, Tromso, and Mjolner-Narvik.

If he's got such a team, with little money, in a very remote part of the country, to win back-to-back national titles against much wealthier teams from far more metropolitian areas then no matter what his European record is, he's worked wonders in his league.

Norwich manager search down to 2 candidates. Both modern, forward-thinking coaches. Talks began Sunday, process should be completed within a week & appointment expected in time for Southampton on 20 Nov.

Sounds like it’s going to be cheap with no questioning the structure, so Martin or Robins it is then!😂👍

IMO there is a huge difference between going to Chelsea as a legend (fans on side immediately) and orchestrating a team of very good players is more about ego management than getting average players (sorry NCFC but that's what we are currently) to grind out results in a relegation scrap which is more likely to end badly than not.

Lets go Norwegian please
