Leeds Match

Recommended Posts

Totally agree in this league 0-0 draws mean nothing, yes the Leeds game is a cannot lose game unfortunately we can't score for love or money but potentially if we press high and don't give Leeds time on the ball we possibly win win this game but it could be a high scoring game as the Leeds defence can leak goals as well.

Hogesar,

The problem is he said it and they would have probably read it or heard it.  It's a bit like the Judge saying "The jury will disregard the last remark", oh yeah, well how are they going to do that then.  Lawyers know this, that is why they say these things in the first place.  He may well say something else in the dressing room, but, the players are now hearing mixed messages and what we saw yesterday is probably a result of that.  How often do we hear managers say (before a game) it's a tough place to play?  The brain is hard wired to prove itself correct, so, do away with any negative input, do away with the possibility it may be proving negativity correct.

Is all this easy, no, that is why Sports Psychologists specialise in mindset management and Football Managers do not, unless they are specifically trained to do so, and based on what I see and hear our manager is not.

With respect I dont agree. Not least because Farke himself has shown a fantastic ability to nurture young talent alongside bringing the likes of Cantwell and Buendia back into focus for a promotion season. That suggests he is quite aware of what he is saying.

Secondly, Farke isn't the only manager to big up the opposition in public and put down our own chances, but privately making it clear what he expects. Like I say, even our most successful managers have done that, such as Paul Lambert. The only reason that sticks in my mind is it was only a couple months ago I was talking about this very thing in a group of people that includes Grant Holt!

Hogesar,

I agree with all you have said, however it doesn't negate my point about how the brain works and if managers really understood this they could get even more from their players.  To give what I say some gravitas, I have worked with players in the past and they (and I) saw tangible improvements.
