By Hook or Ian crook 943 Posted September 25, 2021 I am really at a loss as to why the club put out a message that we can’t seem to be able to compete and attract players to play for us to actually make our first 11 better. I’m sick of this self funded club BS I keep hearing. It’s a Business and should be ran as such but that’s little justification for poor business management. Every business invests free liquidity into asset acquisitions and future proofing yet why does that seem so difficult to do at Norwich. In 2019 when we went up we spent a massive 1.7 million on signings while simultaneously earning 120 million for the season in the premier league. Which eventually was reduced to closer to 100 million with the effects of the pandemic. Yes we spend some on the training ground but realistically a gym and changing room doesn’t cost 10 million to build does it. in 2020 we received parachute payments of 50 million, increased revenue from tv due to being on tv more due to the pandemic. we invested in slightly over 10 million in signings. With an additional 12 pledged to convert loans to signings. 2021 and again this year we are estimated to earn 120 million from the premier league plus the slightly under 40 million sale of Buendia. Bringing our income to just under 160 million. We have only signed 5 players who aren’t on loan for fees totalling 29 million. We were told the fees for Giannoulis and Gibson came out of last seasons budget. Surely with all this income over the past 3 seasons we can compete to at least offer players with proven success at this level short term deals to improve the quality of our squad rather than trying to do everything on the each and money seemingly evaporate into thin air. A prime example of this would of been Andros Townsend this summer who has proven premiership experience and commanded no fee even if we paid him 80k a week for a year and we stay up that’s 4 mill and it’s paid for itself? I am of the option on evidence so far this season we had a stronger first 11 last season than this.
KeiranShikari 1,524 Posted September 25, 2021 We could pay a 25m fee but a player that signs on a 25m fee expects wages befitting of that sadly. We could up our wage budget and probably sign the Josh Kings of this world but at the cost of spending big fees on the Tzolis type players that could flourish into 50m players. Just look at how the squad has been changing over the last 5 years. We're constantly rolling up our quality and wages. It may not be the instant results some seem to want but something is clearly happening.

I see what you’re saying but In previous seasons we’ve always had what I would call a good backbone of experience mixed in with the youth. This season we seem to of thrown the baby out with the bath water and gone all for potential and forgotten we need to win games now to stay in this league. I’d imagine having a player ala Townsend would actually help the likes of Tzolis 1) to take pressure off them to perform straight away and 2) to learn from and see the standard required in training.
