Farkes angry rant 'Rupp should be first on the team sheet'

What is Rupp?

He’s never scored a goal as far as I remember in a league game. Can anybody supply us with his assists to games ratio? Low if not zero I’d expect.

The above in mind that must make him some sort of defensive midfielder. An area we have all including the club been insisting we need to strengthen. Which we are told Norman has been brought in for.

So unless we’re playing Rupp and Norman together which would surely be a creative disaster and assuming we didn’t bring in Norman to play second fiddle Rupp is a bench warmer when we are up to full strength.

Or we sacrifice even more creativity and play both, but we don’t create enough already so who can see that.

Rupp is a play we have no place for really. And I doubt any other premiership or top flight team in Europe would have either!

was a really good post until the last paragraph. For me, Rupp is solid back up material. Versatile, useful to bring on to tighten things up or if we get an injury somewhere we're a bit short in numbers, our James Milner of sorts.

That said, when everyone is fit I'd have him nowhere near the starting 11.

Just astounded at this rant by Farke .. Supporters in the main have been nothing but supportive of all players on the pitch at grounds  this season and I was at Man City and all players were applauded at end despite the drubbing so don’t know who the hell he directing comments too ??  Who has criticised Hanley or Gibson ??  Find it quite bemusing The only thing I found myself questioning is his insistence in flogging players rather than bringing subs on earlier Pukki being prime example . Time to do talking on pitch end off.

Very different players. At our level we have to pick horses for courses 100% sure McLean will play more games this season than Rupp though purely on his physical attributes and his strength in the air

Yes this is true and McLean offers more in terms or aerial ability but I'm not convinced he's any stronger, fitter or faster than any other player, including Rupp. Farke seems to like McLean so I think you're right but he wouldnt be near my team in all honesty... but that's just my opinion.

It's comments like this he is talking about. Why has it got to be Rupp that makes way? Why not one of the others? Return to a 4-2-3-1?

Krul
Aarons, Hanley, Omobamidele, Williams
Rupp, Normann
Rashica, Cantwell, Tzolis
Pukki

For example. Could easily shove PLM in there instead of Cantwell as he played more advanced for Nice. Gary Holt was decent for us in the Prem. We missed out that year, not because of defensive frailties, but we failed to score enough goals resulting in a lot of draws. If you ever hear the likes of Drury or Huckerby talking about it, they will often say the game against Palace is where they feel things slipped. That, and not buying Ashton in the summer rather than January. Literally one goal, in any of the draws before he arrived, would have kept us up. Those were the margins. Gary Holt was no worse a player than Tettey in that role.

Mclean is a more important player in the side. Not least due to his aerial ability.

He's spot on.

The ignorant, moronic, lack or respect Rupp gets on here and social media is shameful.

Actually watch the games. Watch him.

Farke has laid out why he's picked on a plate now. Even the most ignorant fan can now see exactly why he's picked and what he does.

Very happy that a comment like this one has a lot of likes here. I listened to Farkes monolouge from beginning to end and thought it was great. tehn I checked twitter and a bunch of people were responding sarcastically about Rupp's talents (Jack Reeve for example) or just in general being offended that their god given right to moan was questioned. It really annoyed me, so Im happy to come here and see that people here have a bit more perspective.

Who cares?

Have to say, I thought the very same as WD. It's an easier name to spell than 'Rudd' van Nistelrooy.

You actually listened to it? He says 95% of the fans are supportive, but it takes 100% support from the fans to produce the positivity to lift all of the players.

Well the other take is Farke must be an absolute moron to keep picking him if he's so useless and not cut out for the "top 26".

Far be it for me to appeal to authority, but given he and Webber have won the champs twice and absolutely transformed the club since they took charge, I would probably question my own knowledge if I was Jack Reeve et al.

We'll see, but all that praise and calls for support for Hanley, Gibson, Rupp and Pukki could mean they may not be in the starting line-up tomorrow........

I'm now expecting -

                             Krul

Aarons  Omobamidele Kabak Williams

         Gilmour  Normann  McLean

     Rashica       Sargent or Idah         Tzolis

Id go same back 4,

McLean Normann

Tzolis Cantwell Rashica

Sargent..

Don't get me wrong Gilmour is a very good player but I think if you play gilmour and normann both DM it won't work, think they're very similar and want to get forward a bit too much and eager. I maybe wrong about that. Again I don't get why people want 4 3 3 and leave todd out? We've had a good few years using 4231 why so desperate to change?

Yeah, sometimes its hard to avoid the "these guys are professionals in their industry and proven at identifying talent and ability" which is annoying, I understand it stifles debate, but its still the most likely scenario that Farke is right and Steven from Taverham is wrong.

I fully expect Gilmour to start against Watford where we expect to have more of the ball. I have no idea who the others will be mind!

Yes - in the end it came down to the one goal. Gary Holt and Damien Francis were quite a solid DM pair for us. Perhaps we should play Normann, McLean & Rupp (most combative midfielders of the current crop) for the majority of the games. I certainly don't have a problem with Rupp starting.

Jack Reeve is clueless. He doesn't seem to be able to form proper opinions about football matches that aren't just from gleaning information from the final box score or league table. Anything that involves thinking critically about something he struggles. I'm not surprised that he cannot see the value in Rupp because he just looks at the goal and assist tallies.

You must not be a member of one of the ‘fan’ groups on Facebook. It’s vile on there, I quit all I was a member of this week.

Farke has regularly had a rant at media and fans since he's been our manager.

In hindsight, he may well realise that it would have been better to check the League table before telling supporters they don't know anything about football.

I really can’t see where Farke is coming from with this rant. What are we being asked to do celebrate failure?  It’s like he’s saying you know and I know the players aren’t good enough at this level but let’s worship them for trying.

I have less confidence and respect in a manager who is attacking which ever percentage of the paying audience for what has been so far 100% failure. Regardless of the opposition or what you think is acceptable from the first 4 games  we have failed 100% to produce an positive outcome and that is impossible to just ignore.

What have we achieved so far. A clutch of new players who have shown and delivered nothing of any note so far. That’s not saying that won’t before you all go the full Coronation Street but it’s fact. Couple that with sõd all from the original crop and you can’t really expect everyone of just go dancing round the maypole in delight.

What are we to do today if things, heaven forbid follow the the same pattern as the last 14 premier league games. Give them a standing ovation and ask if they’ll pop out for a lap of honour. Maybe the manager will come and waggle his arms up and down at us anyway.

come on let keep it real, football is about emotions and asking people to keep them bottled up for ever is not on!

Yes, if they go out today and give everything they have got, I will clap them off the pitch irrespective of the result. It's a game of football. That's all. Save the toxicity for laziness, selfishness or injustice.

I’m not Ruups biggest fan. Thought he did well at Arsenal though.

The reality is, he isn’t good enough. Farke can shout at as many fans as he wants. There must be a reason people are not impressed with his selection.

He wasn’t even a starter in the championship, so why is he all of a sudden “first name on the team sheet”? Sometimes Farkes stubbornness gets the best of him and he will most likely start him today, just to prove a point. Fingers crossed he has a great game and we win. Otherwise Farke will start getting some of the criticism pointed at him.

I think its important to remember managers arent infallible though. We all saw Worthington persist with Hughes, Neil with Naismith and a couple of managers with Russell Martin at centre back. Eventually it was kind of shown that the fans were right on these players.

It can be down to trust (does Farke have more faith in Rupp to carry out his instructions to the letter than others?), stubborness ('I paid £8m for this Scottish waste of space so I'm going to play him until the end of time!') or sometimes a contrarion streak (there was a time at Ipswich where Mick Mcarthy told fans the more they chanted for a certain player the less likely he was to bring them on).

Farke has no dobut earned more benefit of the doubt than most but I'd suggest if Rupp continues to start more often than not that we'll go down. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the entirely neutral Whoscored have him rated as the 7th worst player in the Premier League so far this season. So Farke is on a bit of an island here.

Watford, like us, are essentially an upper Championship team punching above its weight. Rupp wouldn't look out of place today and given the importance of the game it wouldn't surprise me if he starts. We don't know how well Normann has trained, he might not be ready yet.

Interesting  to see someone from the club poring over social media and the forums though. Hopefully Farke won't adopt a siege mentality with his selections though. It was a bit out of character his comments, and so early in the season.

Excellent post King Canary - spot on.

As well as Farke has undoubtedly done, we must be careful not to give him deity like status. If we can't question or query decisions that he makes, we might as well close the forum.

Imo, Rupp is a Championship level player, who will, at best, be a useful squad player in the Premier League. If Farke thinks he's anymore than that, then he's wrong.
