It also taught me the valuable lesson that arguing politics with strangers on the internet is the most pointless thing you can do.

Try telling that to the posters over in Non Football. 😜

I actually joined when this forum still moderated every single post before going live, it was awful. I'm still only 33 though.

I blame Houston Canary for my high post count though- I honestly was more of a lurker until I started arguing politics with him. I do wonder what happened to him. It also taught me the valuable lesson that arguing politics with strangers on the internet is the most pointless thing you can do.

Must have been around the same time then KC. I recall the site 'loading up' with moving images of pink outlined footballers on a white background (a bit like an old Tales of the Unexpected' somehow). Very quaint.

I recall Tumbleweed and of course First Wizard (and his famous hex he would perform pre matches. His hexes rarely worked 😄). Miss him but like many, Mr Chops (and Bor Bor Bor....same bloke?) gave me many laughs.

Don't think it's an angrier place but perhaps less tolerant. I've posted more since lockdown than at any time I reckon. I don't post on FB or Twitter or anywhere else…. mostly a reader. Likewise here. I have loads of favourite posters, far too many to list.

Chops took a bit of a turn- he was initially funny but over time the humour became more and more bitter and ended up just being a bit of a **** to everyone.

I think less tolerant is probably fair- people seem very quick to play the man not the ball so to speak. However this definitely goes in peaks and troughs- the Worthy Out period and our dip into League One got very bitter on here.

Smudger's a funny little thing.

When you meet posters they are rarely what you expect. Although a lot of the "angry brigade" appeared vertically challenged.

There were some Tally Tallisons though. "The Butler" could go scrumping from the high branches. But the tallest I think would be "Jason Shackle's Limp Tackle" He could pass a ciggie to his mate in the Barclay Upper. Really great bloke though. Still see him occasionally.

Any other memorable giants or shrimps?

I re-registered just to reply. I thought you'd moved seats because of my Halitosis and poor footballing insights! Duncan gets them now! I'm only 6' 5" and I no longer smoke!!

I had to leave a few years back as this place was too toxic and a new forum had been created which lead to really childish spats and 'secret' conversations about posters here, and vice versa.  Really pathetic.

Also, twitter was doing my head in so I quit that too.  It's like you can't generate your own thoughts when there's so much external influence and opinion being forced in.

I think it was during Hughton days perhaps, So there was a lot of anger and frustration around supporters anyway.

Gotta say, i came back few months ago and it's such a nicer place to visit and discuss the club, I really love the community here now.

Even the 'bad' guys are just caricatures of themselves, and it seems more tongue in cheek/panto villains than any real toxicity or vitriol.  But hey, as the OP, perhaps the average age has just lead to a bit more maturity?  I think the stability of the club brings a calmness to the fanbase too.

Agreed about period of the decline and fall to League 1, when people complain about the atmosphere on here, I think back to that time. It was pretty unpleasant. Although possibly my tolerance level for zealotry and the inability to engage in discussion has increased. TBF, which I do try to be, at least there was some evidence of the club being run poorly in those days. Now it’s “we can’t compete with Man City or Liverpool”. 🥱

This has made my day! Great to see you posting. I really miss all the people around my old seat since I was put out to grass in 'the blankets'. The boys share that seat now and it won't be long before Liam's able see in the upper tier!🙃💛💚

I'll be honest I don't really remember this turn from Chops. He became a bit less tolerant to BS but thats about it from what I can remember.

I confess to winding dear old Houston up on occasion. One time I quoted lengthy comments on Israel that were very critical of some of its policies and deliberately left out the provenance of the report. Houston claimed it was bound to be some piece of ultra left-wing, ultra-biased propaganda, at which point I revealed it was the official annual assessment of the CIA...🤓

I'd agree with kc on this one. Chops/Bor Bor Bor, etc, was hilarious for a long then, probably egged on by others he became quite unlikeable. I think he may have been banned a couple of times.

Message boards shouldn't be taken too seriously. They all have a mixture of contibutions from real loonies, not that loony, ' normal ' ( whatever that is ) and everything in between. The world kept turning before message boards turned up and it'll still keep turning after they've gone.

On the whole this board has a lot more good than bad about it so I hope it survives for a good while yet.

It looks like I mis-stepped, so have reported my post with the request that all posts quoting it are also all deleted as obviously, I can't delete quoted cases.

Apologies for that one, I thought the humour would have gone down well (compared to some of the stuff my five-a-side team throw in on our WhatsApp, it doesn't stand out), but clearly misread the room.

See, I have a five-a-side WhatsApp group, and your post didn't offend me. Clearly the fault lies at Goals Soccer Centre, if anywhere. 😂

Glad to see can admit when you're in the wrong.

I think there is a big difference between what you say to a group of mates in private and what you post to a large group of strangers on a public forum.

Considering one of them posted on a recent FB status of mine (about the passport photo as I just renewed my passport, the photo has a rather austere side parting and ended up in black and white for some reason) and stuck up a picture of Adolf Hitler, which got automatically ZuckerPunched in about an hour - the rest of the team always call me a German **** anyway so I knew full well he was just bantering.

Although two other friends, one from another football team, and one from a MBTI group, used Paint for the obvious tash. The football pal made me look more like Super Mario or a dodgy pornstar. The German friend was worryingly deft. Not helped by her comment "Steve, you forgot your tash!"

That pic's still up. Which makes you wonder about FB's AI.

There can be, topic matter also plays a part.

Hi sonyc, I'm still here!

I remember the old board, the moderation had its pros and cons, but the board was probably too succesful to allow that to be sustainable, plus also I suspect there is less legal liability if archant just provide a platform.

What annoyed me was the personal stuff between posters which was tiresome, and some really good thought provoking threads often just degenerated into two or three people determined ever more hysterically, and sometimes abusively, to be right. Which of course is impossible where so much is simply opinion. It put me off posting much.

But there are some really good posters with great views, not all of which I share but respect if their point is well made. For someone like me who left Norwich many years back it is a great source of opinion and "mood" rather than the uninformed national media. Long may this place stay vibrant and active.

This is not quite to the point, but for years now I have read that  the social media have made forums like this redundant, and I don't doubt some fans who used to post here nowadays only use those media to talk to others. But this forum is still going reasonably strongly. And I have yet to look for the views of the fans of the upcoming opposition only to find there is no such equivalent and equally busy forum.

I joined whilst it was still proactively moderating posts so posted about twice in my first 5 years as it fely impossible to have a conversation. But no matter how bad this gets, there's no way I would resort to 'social' media...

I miss Morty. I liked his matter of fact style, even though it was his way or the highway.

And I've deliberately never met or tried to identify any other poster - too concerned I'd be disappointed.....or they would be.

Hello, my darlings.

My employer, Mister Chops, has asked me to let you know that he is quite well and the wounds are healing nicely.

His finest hour and magnum opus, the Pink Un Panto, is now 12 years old and, frankly, it was downhill all the way after that.  He became something of a bully, and, thusly and justly, down came the fabled "Banhammer of Pete".

I'm sure if he were here in person then he would be glad to see some of the old crowd still here, in all their various shades of hope and despair.

Love,

Penny

Unfortunately,Morty was never going to back down from his own strongly-expressed opinions and the antagonism between him and a few other equally forthright users got beyond any chance of middle ground.

Shame because he had been a stalwart of the forum for a long time 😞

Morty became some sort of self proclaimed controller of the forum and caused way too much trouble, being deliberately obtuse and hounded some posters he took exception to.

I started actively reading and then joined to feel a greater connection to the team! Being 6,298.86 km away ... I don't have anybody to talk to about Norwich City. I can't just walk down to the pub and argue with the geezer at the bar about Giannoulis v. Williams, or the merits of the 4-3-3 with Normann in the middle, or whether Snodgrass was a total waste. This board, dare I say community, makes that possible for me! It's worth putting up with Fred and Cambridgeshire to engage in the banter.

Now ... I do hope that one day we will successful and popular enough that I can start my own Central North Carolina Canaries fan club  so I won't have to mess around with you lot anymore!

🤣 😀
