The BBC sheltered child abusers for decades and needs to be defunded

So that means it's ok to make unsubstantiated claims because you are unhappy with the view of said person?

Of course not.

There are many organisations, both in the private and public sector, that sheltered child abusers, rapists, sexual harassers you name it. So are you happy to not give any of them money? So no money to any Christian organisations due to the abuse the vast majority of organisations have covered up, including by aid workers... yes, that's happened. No money to anything related to Disney... which is going to be quite an effort these days. NHS should be defunded, as should the police, children's homes, hospices, Scouts, Boys Brigades, Cadets, Armed Forces, local government, national government... Should I go on?

You are deflecting. It’s about net benefit. Harold Shipman was a monster but we can’t get rid of doctors because they provide a net benefit. The BBC provides no net benefit, operates under its own rules, needlessly criminalises people and it’s irrelevant. It’s already dead. It’s dead. It’s over. We are in the weird twilight period before it’s put out of its misery. Enough people don’t want to pay for it anymore or pay for ex pats and Americans to use a VPN to steal it. Get rid of the licence fee and let’s see how popular this “ institution” is

The coverage won’t disappear it will exist will just be streamed privately. Im not seeing the issue here. It will be streamed online, you can put your jam radio away grandad.

So we pay £5 a game for audio commentary?  £10/month?  Not sure what model you're promoting here but it will rapidly rise season on season as it will be exclusive to whatever broadcaster wants to rip us off.  Sounds like an amazing plan so far, pay MORE for a service you already receive as part of a much larger package - Genius!!

I'd love to know how much you think audio commentary would be when they can't just pull it from the Radio Norfolk stream.  Any guesses?

How can you support it post saville and knowing the wages these idiots like Linekar are payed in tax money. It’s a disgrace. Can’t wait for it to be dead.

Oh you said privatised, but you actually meant that you want an entire organisation and people's jobs to be dead?  That's quite some jump, Slightly psychopathic wording.. But we'll let it roll.

The alternative of course, is that we pay £40/month for the BBC and Linekar earns more money with subs and advertisers?  Again, amazing plan you have.  It's clearly never occurred that Linekar may have a reputation that broadcasters are willing to pay for?  Or do you think the BBC just do it for a laugh as they run out of things to spend the money on?

And yes I am supporting excellent pundits and sports coverage across the network - it's an incredible one of a kind that we're blessed to have.  Does "These idiots" include Goreham and Butler too?  Wishing them out of a job I presume, as there's no way they could do what they do now on a privatised service.  The companies with products to sell only have a finite budget, the more outlets the less advertising revenue generates.

I know many people who've lost loved ones in the past few years, and during the lockdown it's the local radio that's kept them sane and connected to what's going on around them.  Really proud of what BBC Norfolk does for this area, even if I only listen to football we've been featured on their new music shows before and it's really provided a great boost at live gigs.

Not to mention the BBC bitesize site for schoolwork, it's a great service.  ...Again, all these facets are tiny in regards to the mass reach, multiply it out to every region and you start to appreciate it as a whole.

Don't see the likes of Amazon, Facebook, Netflix putting this much back in do you?  Actively taking UK subs, and doing their best to avoid paying back into the tax system. Yet your mind is focused on a weirdo in the 70s you've dropped your guard on the evil already in your house.

For me, I'd support a company like the BBC who's income I'm aware of, than data gatherers that want to infringe on our privacy.  Not to mention the value you receive is unparalleled.

But then I don't want them dead or people to be out of work to make me feel better about myself.

So the licence fee isn’t increasing? What’s the price like for old people like, should we really go down that route? Has the BBCs inhumanity in that area not been documented fully enough? The club would just stream the game and you’d pay for it, it’s easy to do, they do it already for internet radio transmission. It’d be cheaper than the rip off licence fee.

The BBC can exist if it wants. The market can decide. No public money for it though.

let’s face it, post licence fee pull the BBC will unfurl the hammer and sickle flags lol and it’ll instantly go broke. Nobody’s paying for that anymore.

everything the BBC does is or can be done better by somebody else. They are crap at their jobs and get away with it because they have public money. The market killed the BBC along with the molestation but mainly outmanoeuvred in a market it can’t compete it.

In the words of NOFX, Dinosaurs must die

NOFX - A 1983 Skate punk band according to Wiki.

"In this song, dinosaurs represent the huge record labels that put out bad music because it sells. They will die even though they are powerful like the dinosaurs were. The song explains how music should be made for the love of it and nothing more: "Music made from pure devotion, not ambition, not for fans."

And there's you promoting the privatisation of a national broadcasting service who's very uniqueness is NOT being driven via private investment to curate the content they put out.  You haven't even a clue what you promote, or what you stand for.  Pseudo Punk.

Burn the system, and sell the land it stood on to the highest bidder.  What a great mantra.

I have very little interest in speaking any further with you if I'm honest as there's just too much to untangle in your head, I'm not qualified to even attempt it.

i'm not going to rant anymore about decisions because honestly i'm tired of it, really, really tired and bored of the same outcome. But shearer is a well known thicko. I suspect the BBC staff have to wipe the dribble off of his face between shots.

Just another moron who doesn't know what he's talking about. He knows as much about us as I do about Harrogate Town or Yeovil and I'm not paid an extortionate wage funded by ordinary hard working people to talk about them and that's on purpose, he doesn't consider us worth his time.

Funny you should say that because you are simply arguing because you don't like it, don't want to pay for it, it should be gone.

So lets forget the educational support that the BBC includes such as revision for GCSE students and early years educational programs. You don't use those, maybe you'd do better if you did? But many people do.

I know people in the USA who prefer the BBC news to the popularist entertainment networks they have that like to mascaraed as "news". There are many in the rest of the world who have, and continue to, benefit from the BBC world service.

Those arguing for it to go are simply naive to the number of people who still use and indeed, rely upon the BBC.

That includes supporting Welsh Speaking stations, local stations that broadcast football games, important discussions about the games the cover. Promotion of the womens game etc. And specialist podcasts and radio shows.

Don’t get mad at me it’s the BBC that did it to themselves? You think I created Netflix and YouTube and made them irrelevant in the modern world? Grow up.

They only have themselves to blame

they are Woolworths, and times up.

Nobody else can and would provide these services? Only the BBC is capable of delivering this?

the BBC doesn’t have a Divine right to exist and it’s played itself as far as relevancy. I don’t have any sympathy for it and won’t cry when it dies. It has only itself to blame.

My big issue with getting rid of the bbc is that, it's currently the only TV channel which isn't owned and controlled by billionaires with an agenda.  There's something to be said for vaguely impartial news.....

There is always an agenda.

(For the record, I quite like BBC. I can't stand Shearer and Wright as MOTD panellists they are predictable, boring and poorly researched however).

Take it you’re not catholic then!

No, would it matter if I was? I don’t support abuse like that in any context, the addition of tax money makes it worse IMO but that won’t kill it faster than better alternatives do
