New training ground development

Recommended Posts

We have submitted blueprints for planning permission for further developments at the Training Centre. 👍

" These plans include building a "recovery hub" designed to aid players in making comebacks from injury, improved changing facilities and an advanced media centre.

The recovery hub will consist of a new swimming pool and other facilities geared at offering aqua training and hydrotherapy to support players recovering from injury."

SWIMMING POOL?!? Back in my day players were lucky to get a sponge on an injured arm or leg.. 😉

Indeed recovery hub meant a segment of Orange out a plastic tub at half time!

I was a bricklayer for R G Carter when we first built the training ground, when it was nearly built, a group of people from Wolves came & had a look, because at the time it was looked upon as a first class training ground. Looking back at what we first built & how it is now is brilliant to see.

When was that. I can still remember it being at Trowse. The 1980s?

Used to run in a half marathon from there; us runners were always amazed at the luxurious changing rooms. From what I recall it was a fairly tough run.

Would also be rather nice if the club could maybe spend a few bob on the archaic City Stand? Ideally to upgrade the rather dated 'retro' lounges and other facilities including the toilets.....Especially if the City Stand isn't to be replaced/modernised/expanded an' made a bit biggerer an' betterer......anytime soon.....

Byram has his name on the list for the recovery hub. Seriously though there is a huge pool nearby at the UEA, one at Nuffields and another a stones throw away from the ground!

It was in between 1992 & 1993, Dave Stringer was the manager. I can still remember Adi Akinbiyi racing into the training ground in his Escort RS Turbo, the player’s & management  turned up to have a look at how the training ground was getting on. Happy days

Pools that are used by other people, when we need our pool, we need our pool. Sorry Teemu , Hellesdon Girl Guides are in till 9-30, can you come back later. What this pool will cost is nothing compared to player investments, and they need to be in the best shape possible.

Whilst I’m a massive supporter for Stadium development, I think it should be behind the training ground stuff on the list of what is a priority. You have to look at it as a bit of a bet with the stadium, you need to fill those extra seats for perhaps 10 years to pay it off… that’s a gamble in our current standings in football, one we could make with a little bit more stability in the top flight and extra cash to help the project.

However, regardless of which league we are in there will always be a use for a rehab pool, as we will always have players at Colney and injuries are part of football. Now when you look at the extra benefits, say we can reduce players time out with an injury by 10-20% that would be a huge benefit. They’d have another low impact way for days after the match to rehabilitate which would potentially bring our injury rate down too. And then you can factor in the ‘player draw’ effect, when we have potential signings looking at us as an option.

In my post I'm not actually questioning, criticising or disputing the proposed improvements at Colney.... Let 'em crack on with it and maybe they can also install a Hyperbaric Oxygen chamber to accelerate player injury recovery processes or an XXL Hot tub to splash around in?.....

I'd just like to see an upgrade of the below par 'retro' Lounges and the poor quality toilets in the City Stand.....As there doesn't seem to be any rebuild or expansion of the City Stand on the cards anytime soon, why not upgrade its facilities to an acceptable standard?.....
