Starting line-up for Liverpool

Recommended Posts

--------------------------Krul

Aarons Zimmermann Gibson Giannoulis

--------------Gilmour Lees-Melou

-----------Rashica Dowell Cantwell

-------------------------Pukki

Though I originally put Omobamidele in as he's the most match fit, ultimatley went wth Gibson's experience. Rupp may feel hard done by, but Id have Lees-Melou and Gilmour ahead of him in CM and Rashica is simply higher quality

Is Hanley definitely not fit for next Saturday? If not, I'd go with Omobamidele over Zimmermann, personally. Otherwise I agree with that team.

I would put either:

                            Krul

Aarons     Hanley   Gibson   Giannoulis

               Gilmour   Lees-Melou

    Rashica        Dowell      Cantwell

                           Pukki

or:

                                         Krul

            Zimmerman      Hanley         Gibson

Aarons          Gilmour        Lees-Melou        Giannoulis

                        Rashica        Cantwell

                                      Pukki

Krul, Aarons, Gibson, Hanley, Giannoulis, Gilmour, Lees-Melou, Rashica, Cantwell, Tzolis (if available), Pukki.

It’s hard to judge from Newcastle how well a back 5 works given that we solid up until into the second half when Newcastle made 10 changes in total, and consequently that’s a lot of fresh legs to deal with. Let’s face it, Liverpool is nearly a free hit - I’d stick Hanley in to replace Zimbo as we’ve got to get him up to speed at some point - might as well be against them and Man City, and who knows he might be fresher than what we realise. And Tzolis, if he’s already signed and is free to play, we know is match fit - though might be a bit harsh by myself on Dowell who’s largely been tremendous since getting his chance. But he has the quality to hurt Liverpool all things considered. We should be in much better shape by then on several levels regardless so am looking forward to it.

I agree. I would never pick zimmerman vs omobomidele. Especially against fluid front 3 that Liverpool will possess whereby pace and mobility will be key. The very weaknesses of zimmerman.

Isn’t Todd an injury doubt for the match?

And definitely Omobamidele in preference to Zimbo if Hanley is unavailable.

Imagine the players that are isolating that are first teamers will still start personally so imagine we will see at least Hanley, probably Rashica start .

We need to use these first few games where there is little expectations to get match fit for the more winnable games IMO.

I’d go

Krul

Zimmerman Hanley Gibson

Aarons Lees-Melou Gilmore McClean Giannoulis

Cantwell/Rashica depends on Cantwell’s fitness

Pukki

I suspect he's more a 'probably signed for Villa' doubt..... 😏

I remember Hanley missing most of the last promotion season through injury. He was subsequently written off by many and was subject to much over harsh criticism on here. Fast forward a couple of years and he’s the best thing since sliced bread and it’s Zimmermann that is getting crucified having had a rough couple of seasons in which he’s not made many appearances.

For what it’s worth, I accept we might hope for better in terms of our starters, but Zimmermann is a very reliable player who won’t let us down. On top of that, if he gets the rub of the green in terms of injuries, he may just surprise a few and come back stronger.

He’s a good servant, a model pro and deserves our respect in my opinion.

I’m probably inclined to go with this, assuming no Hanley.  As a back three Zimm might be ok but not for me ahead of AO in a back four.

I don’t think Farke will start Rashica, Hanley and possibly Pukki as they just haven’t had enough minutes in preseason. Same with Tzolis and Sargent if they sign this week. Rupp has picked up a knock and the Mayor has only had 55 minutes in total. Pal Hera had a lot of game time early in preseason but not sure he has done enough to suggest he warrants a starting place.

Not ideal preparations going into a pivotal season for the club, one where they could really give it a good go this time around.

I think he may start with

Krul

Aarons Omobamidele Gibson Giannoulis

Lee Melou Gilmour Sorenson

Dowell Idah Cantwell

Purely on game time, form and fitness throughout preseason.

Tzolis and Sargent have had enough pre-season for their clubs-and Sargent has played 2 league games-so I’d be happy giving at least one of them a go against Liverpool.

Zimmermann in a pairing or a 3 is a recipe for disaster.

I don't particularly want to add to the Zimmermann pile on, but he really hasn't been the same since that challenge by Haller and I'm not convinced even playing regularly will improve this situation.

I'm still hopeful that another CB is still on the shopping list.

I think all likely starters will start irrespective of pre-season minutes and Farke will treat the first two games against Liverpool and Man City as extended pre-season.

Essentially using the two games to get minutes into players legs without having to worry about the result.

Team I think Farke will pick:

Krul

Aarons-Omo-Hanley-Gibson-Giann

Sorenson-Gilmour-Vindaloo

Dowell-Pukki-Rashica

Subs: Gunn, Zimmermann, Mumba, Rupp, Idah, Sargent, Hernandez.

* Cantwell for Dowell if fit

* Rupp for Sorenson if fully fit

Yeah we'll start with 12 and see if the ref notices 😉

I hear what you're saying, unfortunately just like in the case of Stiepermann, Vrancic etc he's not good enough at this level. He was very good in the last championship winning season and if I remember rightly he got injured near the end of that season and had to have surgery then we rushed him back in the prem season due to injuries then he got injured in that West Ham game.

We need a new CB as we know Hanley has a habit of picking up injuries, Gibson also picked up a couple last season. If at any point we have to rely on Zimmermann this season then I fear we got our recruitment wrong.

Zimmermann has been a good signing for us but unfortunately he's limited in what he does and we need to be moving onto that next level. We've done well in being much more ruthless this time round, granted we didn't have the funds last time out to be able to do that.

Well, Van Dijk has only played 20 minutes of senior football in I don’t know how long, so I doubt Hanley will be any rustier than him! Liverpool do have a friendly today though so will be keeping a close eye on any potential injuries etc (not that that’s wished upon a player of course).

Amazing how quickly Zimmermann is written off. He's barely kicked a ball for the past couple of season due to injuries and now he's rubbish. As someone said previously, Hanley was getting the same treatment two years ago.

Not writing Zimbo off myself, just my first choice would be Hanley because I think he’s criminally underrated (and have said that for a long time).

Big-ish news from Anfield, Robertson has just been helped off the pitch and judging by the way he rolled his ankle, I can’t see him playing against us on Saturday, looked quite nasty.

He isn't good enough. Nowhere near. Look at that 3rd goal from yesterday, that's a standard Zimmermann move.

If Zimmerman is so bad, why has Farke kept him in the squad? His effort and attitude are excellent. Surprising the amount of people that would leave him out in favour of a young player(however good) and Gibson who can't be anywhere near match fit.

I would imagine that we will start with more or less the same side as yesterday,-maybe Sorensen instead of Rupp- and make full use of the substitutes. Hughill's style of play could be useful.

I think he’s more at fault for the first goal, although Gilmore have the ball away, watched it repeatedly and still don’t get why he doesn’t just put his head on that and clear it, letting it bounce in the 6 yard box is criminal.

I still think he’s a useful 3rd/4th choice but he definitely seems to be struggling to reach his previous levels the last year or so.

God, trying to figure out our side to play Liverpool on Saturday is depressing;

This side is so much worse off than this point two years ago.

I like the look of this team, but it depends if Rashica and Cantwell are 100% fit and up to speed, which I donlt think they will be - no point playing them otherwise.

Was the three at the back against Newcastle so bad?  Not imo, so we made a couple of errors at the back - a good game to make them in when nothing is at stake - if anything, a kick up the back side to the players to do better when it really matters.

Maybe Saturday's match was a good indication of how we will set up against Liverpool. Forget the second half yesterday, it was a lottery of player changes by Newcastle and lack of choices on our side. I like the three at the back and trust Zimbo to get back to his best - he is a hugely strong character and we shouldn't forget that.

For me, a 352  -

                              Krul

         Omobamidele Zimbo Gibson

Aarons   Gilmour Rupp Lees-Melou Giannoulis

                      Pukki      Idah
