Rocky Bushiri (failed trial at Coventry)

Recommended Posts

"As Norwich City wanted Sam McCallum to experience new surroundings this season — he’s joined Queens Park Rangers for the campaign — Coventry knew they were out of the race to bring him back for his fourth spell at the club.

Whether that void will be addressed by the start of the season remains unclear. Robins is expected to let defender Rocky Bushiri return to Norwich City after a trial but is still working on two or three possible loan deals. Decisions on ex-Crystal Palace left-back Pape Souare and veteran defender Martin Cranie will also be made this week."

Think I've only seem him play once , he " threw great shapes " as they say but didn't look like a defender to me.

Neil Adams said his reputation is strong in Belgium, but he just has a terrible record with injuries and can't get the run of games he needs.

Time running out I feel, going to have to stay fit or he might as well call it a day.

Mark Robins' quotes about him the other day weren't very complimentary so not a massive surprise.

How Bushiri made it into the Belgium U21s is looking a bit of a mystery to me.

I'm not sure of that to be honest.

Seems to be more a case of not being quite back to fitness and being a bit raw. If he's not played regularly in a while that makes sense. Robbins also had a couple of other trialists so it's possible he is looking for someone ready to go now rather than someone who could take a few weeks or couple of months to get up to speed.

Read between the lines. He's said he's not fit and he's not good enough.

Infact it's pretty much on the lines, not between them.

Where does it say he's not good enough?

Raw, rash, lacking understanding, not fit.

All adds up to not good enough.

It means he's inexperienced, centre backs are usually at their best in their late 20's-which shows what a great prospect Omobamidele is.

We gave Rocky a nice long contract,we must have seen some potential.

Robins' quotes were pretty damning, seemed to be suggesting that finances were forcing him to consider a player that is far off championship standard. If Bushiri is miles away from being a championship squad player at this stage, injuries or not, he isn't making it here.

He could be a late bloomer. But even if he is, he's going to have to leap frog Big Andy and Jonathan Tomkinson to get a sniff, which I think might be a tall order for anyone given how well both seem to be doing this pre-season.

Suspect he may be allowed to move on if the right opportunity arose for him.

Nope. When you remove context you remove meaning.

That effectively states the biggest issue is that he is rusty and needs more time training to get back to fitness and match sharpness.

"His understanding of the game in terms of how we play needs some work"

What that is collectively saying is he is missing match sharpness, fitness and will take time to adapt to the way they play. Which is understandable considering the football he missed last season through injury.

Robbins clearly felt that Coventry couldn't afford to take on a player that could need some time before being useful to them in a first team set up. I believe they have a couple of others on trial with more experience.

Robbins stresses that there is potential there - not that he is rubbish or "not good enough".

Okay but not considering the semantics, Coventry are looking for a backup centre back, not a starter, and it seems young Bushiri isn't good enough even for that. And if that's the case, he will never be good enough for us. He seems to be behind even Famewo who is a year older and also considered not good enough.

Win some lose some. He'll be on loan somewhere with a view to permanent by September.

Depends - we don't know they are looking for a back up. Also, we may want him to be playing a number of games for them. It might be the loan fee or arrangement doesn't work with their finances - something else mentioned in that piece.

He may well end up not being good enough for us, but there certainly isn't anything too much to read into that piece. For all we know, it was a loan in view to buy - like Famewo. Absolutely no point trying to read the tea leaves between imaginary lines for a player not in first team contention for us at the moment.

They have a well established back three, and a very limited budget with other areas that urgently need improvement according to Robins. Not reading tea leaves, just reading.

I agree nothing is certain in football but he's about 8th choice and is always injured. Best of luck to him.
