Was really hoping we would finally see some real ambition to establish ourselves this window - but as things stand it all seems so eerily familiar:

sold our best player to a rival

lost out to direct rival for our targeted CB

haven’t recruited position we need -  CDM

Appear to be struggling to land top targets

a couple of decent signings for sure - but hardly looking better than last year as it stands. Certainly not looking significantly stronger. Might yet change but beginning to feel like a premiership groundhog window to me…

1.  Villa aren't a direct rival and anyone thinking they are is deluding themselves. Looking at their performance last season and the wealth they have, they'll have justified expectation of being on the edge of the battle for getting into Europe.

2. Only after a bidding war and as the purchase of Lees-Medou shows (especially when looking at the prices touted for Billing), price and quality aren't always that well linked. We still need good value for money from our purchases, and going in bidding wars is not how to get it.

3. Possibly not an out-and-out Skipp replacement, but Gilmour and Lees-Medou signify they're clearly looking at the midfield. Still looks like they're looking at Billing as well.

4. There's "struggling to land top targets" and "refusing to pay silly money". Ajer was clearly a case of the latter, especially as he had less than a year to go on his contract. Could easily say Brentford needed a centre-half more than we do and again, going in bidding wars is not how to get value-for-money from purchases.

I'd agree we're a centre-half and a defensive midfielder light, but purchases don't always happen in order of priority.

Maybe OP, but you have ignored the "signings" of Gibson and Gianoullis, the retention (thus far) of Cantwell and  Aarons and the amount of time left for further additions.

Not quite yet the time for a good moan.

a) Villa finished 11th last season and are strengthening, so provided they don't lose Grealish they should be challenging for Europe.

b) If Brentford are willing to pay considerably more than us, Newcastle and Leverkusen were, there's nothing really we can do about that.

c) There are still seven weeks left of the window and four weeks until the season starts.

d) Rashica and Gilmour were likely top targets.

Pathetic to moan this early when arguably our squad is already stronger than what it was last year even without Buendia

We all knew this would happen when Whatsisname went to Crystal Palace and left us with a massive void to fill.

It was the same when Thingyamebob went to a rival.

As I'm on the flight path to Norwich airport I've painted a message on my roof to the French bloke and told him not to bother.

How is it stronger - our two best players have gone- skipp and Buendia. We have replaced Buendia with a cheaper option - rashica. Looks good but has huge boots to fill given how much emi created. skipp was so important and Gilmour - whilst exciting - is not a swap.

All these threads and posts about whether or not we are stronger and who we have or haven't signed are getting really boring now, they have no relevance UNTIL THE PIGGING WINDOW SLAMS SHUT. It's pointless assessing the squad until then.

Buendia was probably about a size six.

But perhaps we're not trying to directly replace buendia (or skipp). Buendia worked on the way we played last year, as shown by the season before our approach needed to be different this time, hence we are signing players with a slightly different skillset which will fit with our tweaked approach.

We have sold one overrated show pony for £33m and spent £32m of that to buy five players and pay the loan fee for one other. Use the money from one player to bring in six - that looks like pretty sharp football management to me.🤓

Dry your eyes mate
I know it's hard to take, but his mind has been made up
There's plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make him see how much this pain hurts
But you've got to walk away now, it's over

Got to love the streets.

"Little old Norwich" ? What an incredibly unoriginal title. I think it's about time you retired from trolling, your heart obviously isn't in it anymore.

The club I support Norwich is in the EPL so don’t call them little you t***. You f***** of into a little hole last year when we started to do well against all your predictions. Inevitably as we are in the the EPL next season we will lose more games so guess you will be dissing our club for most of next year.

My original post made clear that things could change - so it was an observation about what has happened so far. And losing out on our top cb target to a promoted rival is - by anyone’s book- disappointing.

I also find it odd that some people on this board are SO defensive of the club hierarchy as to aggressively denounce any negative points as disloyal. Surely it is reasonable for fans to want to see us compete - not just roll over and cheer when we lose.

Honestly some on here seem to think we are heading for mid table as we are because “omabamidile is developing well so we don’t need Ajer” and because we don’t need a new CB. Those are the same people who assured us last time round that windows weren’t yet shut and all would be well, it wasn’t, we went on to suffer a season with worst stats ever. Explain why largely the same team won’t do the same again? Minus, of course, our best player that season in terms of assists

My problem is we all know that Buendia  and Skipp were good, But no guarantee that this year we would get the same performance from them. But it sounds like you have already decided that the signings so far are not going to be any good. How about let’s wait and see before we start to make decisions we may be pleasantly surprised OTBC

What an absolute load of ****.

If you want to see gratuitous spending for the sake of it, go support Chelsea, or Man Utd or Man City.

This is Norwich City. We're a club with limited means. It's absolutely right we set limits on our targets and strictly stick to them. Top target or not.

And that also means giving our young talent the chance when they deserve it. If Andy Omo is impressing in training, he deserves being given a shot, particularly after his heroics last season.

No one accuses you of disloyalty. That implies you held loyalty at one time. Your posts are rejected and ridiculed as they are entirely baseless. You aren't a Norwich fan. You are just another internet troll.

I have no problem with modest spending - I do have a problem with uncompetitive spending. And despite huge revenue in recent years- two promotions and massive sales- we still don’t seem able to compete with any sides at all- hence losing out to Brentford. Self funding is all well and good but at what price?

sure we are not Chelsea- but Burnley, palace, Brighton, villa, Southampton have all come up and made a better fist of it. We always seem to do it on the cheap at this level

You forgot a relegation and a pandemic too.

Pandemic has hit every club so doesn’t change our level of competitiveness with them. I haven’t forgotten the relegation / it hurt and was the result of not even trying to be competitive. We were told it would be different this time/ am hoping that is true

What a surprise, as night follows day, dcb can always be relied on to concentrate on anything negative. For me, we’ve not missed out on Ajer, we moved on weeks ago - there’s a big difference.
