Club Vs Country

  1. 1. Would you rather….

    • England win Euro 2020
      11
    • Norwich win FA Cup 21-22
      54

I get the feeling most will say Norwich…maybe?

However I’m interested to know as I was heavily criticised for saying Norwich when asked at work.

I really really hope England win tonight but I can pretty much guarantee I won’t be celebrating anywhere near the level I would if Norwich were to win a major trophy.

(I thought about putting Norwich to win the PL as the alternative to England but thought I’d be more realistic - yes Lakey I know, anything’s possible!)

They aren't mutually exclusive, so why can't we have both??

Is that being greedy? 😛

How good a year would that be! (Assuming we stay up as well 😉)

Bear in mind that not everyone here is English 😂

Good point. Apologies all non-English canaries, though still interested if you’d prefer your country to win a major tournament or NCFC

Never. Would feel for Emi though, but that's his choice for choosing them I guess

Isn't that what I said!

I guess the idea is to gauge which one would mean the most to you.

Norwich every time for me. Doesn’t mean I’m not rooting for England.

As it means we won't have to hear about 66 and Three Lions again I am going for an England win, purely and simply.😀

Herman, did you deliberately make a subliminal reference to another Lightening Seeds Track there?

Completely unintentional, although that is the one of their's that I liked.

Their greatest hits CD is great. A good car listen when on a long drive.

I wouldn't. Love the guy for what he did for us, but I would absolutely love it if when we play them in April at Villa Park we're riding high in the Premier League whilst Villa are floundering and the away end give it a massive, "It could have been yooooou, it could have been yooooooooooooooou, Emi Buendia, it could have been you".

At which, he’d show us his bank balance. ☹️

He wouldn't, but that would just cause people to laugh at him even more, surely? No one in the away end is going to be like, "Oh yeah, he's really rich now, we should wind our necks in"!

I’m sure Emi has plenty of professional pride, but at the end of the day, we all work to live. I’m sure being set for life financially ranks above playing for a successful team for 99% of players.

To be fair, with him being on in excess of £30k plus a week whilst in the Prem with Norwich (more, I'm sure, if he'd have asked for it and said he was willing to stay), he would have been set for life regardless.

Just numbers plucked out of the air, but:

  • £30K x 52 weeks x 3 years = £4,680,000
  • Assume a marginal tax rate of 50% = £2,340,000
  • Worst case, he gets seriously injured during the length of the contract, and doesn't play again
  • He lives another 50 years - income of £46K/annum

Not bad, most of us would be happy with it, but it will scarcely fund the footballers lifecycle he's been used to. A doubling of his salary is still going to be extremely attractive.

Just never quite feel as emotionally invested in England as I do Norwich, I have been lucky enough to see England on a number of occassions, and this team under Southgate is definitely tugging at my heartstrings more than any other English side in my lifetime, but it doesn't come close to going to Carrow Road

Club over Country everytime.

As a young lad we'd usually be on holiday in Spain/Portugal for Euros/WC which would make it doubily exciting.

I did carry this on with the lads going Ibiza/Benidorm but since I've got into my early and mid thirties I've just not been arsed about England.

Ive got no connection to this current setup, Southgate is so negative, we are supposed to have 'another' unbelievable crop of young talent but again flatter to deceive.

Mostly as a NC fan, we are the underdog and the result is all that's important, so I don't mind how we get it.

Watching England frustrates me, we have a abundance of attacking talent yet play Southgate's 7-2-1 whenever we come up against someone half decent.

The last point is the bit that frustrates me most about Sunday, I can understand the need to be cautious in the final but Italy were there for the taking, and I've no doubt the bundles of talent we had on the bench in Rashford/Sancho/Foden and of course Grealish had more than enough in the tank to go and get us a goal. I think it was one of the ex-Dutch pro's on the commentary who basically said it's a shame England have had their butts in their own penalty area all game because they have so much attacking talent, and that's exactly spot on for me. I'd rather have seen us give it a go and lost rather than whimper along until the luck of the draw in pens

Foden wasn't on the bench, as he was injured, but I take your point.

The one guarantee with England is that every major championship the 'fans' will do something to embarrass themselves. I know it's only a minority of fools but it means that I'll pick Norwich every time.
