Thanks for that, clearly shouldn't post with a heavy hangover. Hope you're enjoying all the flags coming down.

Just washin' me white van mate then orft to the barbers to get me head shaved again, (I'd normally let my luvly missus Britney shave it, but wiv my 10 kids an my 16 years old eldest wiv her 2 kids she ain't got the time) then a bit o' shoppin' in aldi an' QD followed by a few sherbets in the local 'spoons'.....Theirs no need to be sarcaustic an' come over all pseudo-intelly lecturing horseflyshyte an' stereotyping me?.....I luvs Engerlund an' the cross o' saint george is tattooed on my right forearm an' thez a bulldog tatt on t'other one...I've also got a tatt o' scargill on my rite butt cheek an' a tatt ofJezzer corbynista on my lefty butt cheek ....Now just you crack on wiv yer lefty lib lab marxy socialistica commie loike minded buddies and continue using this footy forum as a personal an' private platform to continue to posture an' a preach your political angst, agenda an' persuasion (but don't forget to chip in with the occasional footy post and opinion to keep forum Pete the Delete...sweet) an' pleeze keep copy an' a pasting ickle pics an snippets from the graduian news paper an' stuff - the tory an' boris an' brexit bashin looks right fun an' they're really brill! I'm sure everyone who posts on here agrees! Shame as you an' 'em uvvers of your ilk who purport to be far superior an intelligent are unfortunately actually in the vocal and voting public minority. Hey, but maybe one day your vindictive vocal echo chamber minority will one day out vote the supposed lacking any form of intellect silent majority....Hears Hopping!......ENGERLUND ENGERLUND ENGERLUND!......

Ps I'll show you my scargill an' corbynista tatts if you like?.....Butt, if you don't I'll understand.....

Judging by his posting style I don't think Mello and reality have crossed in a long time. I've always imagined him as an OAP with a heavy interest in certain types of mushrooms.

I think it'll be this - an article written by Michael Young, who actually put the word "meritocracy" into common use with his 1958 text "The Rise of the Meritocracy".

Down with meritocracy | Michael Young | The Guardian

Trouble with his argument is that he seems to believe that being born poorer means you don't have any genuine talent or intelligence and that if you do have those attributes, you are a freak.

Considering his coverage of the backgrounds of Attlee and Morrison amongst others, I don't see that at all. I do see how he's basically allowing for people to be in a relatively poor position simply as they didn't get the breaks.

I viewed it as he is comparing whether you make it despite the breaks or because of them.

Of course, I believed in a meritocracy based on the premise that equal opportunity existed.

You have have missed his many nuanced points. At risk of taking this completly away from football his point was that in a meritocratic society those whose rise to the top believe they have done this entirely through their own efforts, and therefore those who are poor are rightly poor due to their failings. He doesn't believe this to be the case himself, understanding the myriad of advantages through which a meritocratic elite can self perpetuate itself in an almost heriditary manner through such mechanisms as the education system. Through this way the meritocratic elite can also absorb those that are poor but have genuine talent and intelligence.

Your self loathing is pathetic. To think England did nothing good for the world thru colonization is laughable. But it's also irrelevant to the emptiness today's fake woke millionaires kneeling before kickoff. What has all this kneeling accomplished? 😄

2021 Western civilization frowns on racist practices. To beat ourselves up over racism is dumb. It's also patronizing. Why not focus on something that actually is a problem such as the breakdown of the nuclear family. That leads to far more death and violence than racism does. Declining birth rates is another huge problem. Illegal drug use. These are actual things that impact the nation whereas racism is rare and already highly publicized and virtual signalled.

Wow, managed to cover a whole range of topics and have a wrong take on each one. Just to pick one thing - given that you're (presumably) not BAME, what makes you think "racism is rare", indeed if you're not ever a victim of it, what gives you the right to even make that claim?

And as @Jerzy Krukowski's excellent link showed, it doesn't - and the lines between getting on and getting stuck can be quite exceptionally fine.

Excellent indeed! You would like to think that even those who struggle with social reality might manage to follow that simple and eloquent depiction. Indeed, one might even compare the actual childhood of Sterling and Rashford et al and consider which side of the cartoon they sit, then perhaps consider whether their success is based on merit or privilege.

So would she agree that if she had spent more time being a "good wife" perhaps her husband (and former MP) Charlie Elphicke might not have gone to prison for sexually assaulting his staff? Comparing her political "achievements" with those of Marcus Rashford show very clearly which of them is "playing at politics" and which is transforming the lives of people for the better.

But that was why I said I used to believe. Because equal opportunity does not exist, it is likely to fail but not just because of discrimination.

I know. I just wanted to point out that the link put in explained it quite wonderfully.

From Talkradio and GB news contributor a predictably classy statement

But of course, they pretend to condemn the abuse.

If this Government and its MPs had spent more time making considered decisions, than decisions that lined their own pockets whilst letting the Countrymen they supposedly represent die in overcrowded hospitals .......................

If this Government and its MPs had spent time condemning racists and their comments then maybe Britain would be a better place to live.....

Just shows how incredibly stupid this current crop of MPs really are.
