EMI for 33 - we have robbed again...

Recommended Posts

Talksport say it's as good as done that Jack grelash has gone to Man city for 100m.

Pffffffttttttt, if true, that 33m for EMI looks a steal ....

Well done Norwich for this week's transfer dealings... But maybe, we sold too cheap! (I'm sure most posters thought this already)

Not sure we would have got more for Emi as fee can rise to 40 million, and it's villas transfer record and the highest fee paid for a championship player.

TalkSport jumping the gun - Jack will fail a personality test, and then move to Red Bull and Vodka Leipzig

Our mistake was in turning down all those higher offers. Perhaps you could refresh our memories by listing them all.

Oh dear, for the second Premier League season in a row, it looks like Emi is being ‘sent into war without a McGinn’

No, we got the most we could for Emi. Remember, Arsenal were also sniffing around.

By definition, the value achieved was the most that was gained. Not to mention there is always a considerable premium on home-grown talent, and indeed that the likes of Man City and Man Utd tend to overpay by definition.

Yawn, we got good money for Emi.

Do you really not think the fact that Jack Grealish has risen to being one of the best players in the Premier League while Emi has been in the Championship married to the fact that Man City know Villa have far more money than Norwich and can hold out on their stars in a way we simply do not have the financial muscle to do has something to do with the disparity between the fees?

The situations are night and day.

I am delighted with the way our Club is run and I think those who still idly snipe at it day after day should be somehow barred from celebrating our relative successes.

I don't think it's fair that people can drag the absolutely phenomenal job Webber et al have done through the mud time and time again and still get to jump around when Norwich score. Trolling or not, I just wish football fans were as honest and transparent as Stuart Webber.

Grealish was always going to be multiples more expensive than Emi. The fact he’s English and a media darling for one doubles the price. Played more prem football than Emi. This doesn’t surprise me.

Many of us eventually conceded that Emi probably was making a move where he might be challenging for Europe, but I’m not so sure that will be the case now at all if they lose both McGinn and Grealish. They needed to strengthen further for that as it was.

Oh well, they can always go back in for that long term £30mil target Milot Rashica they wanted I suppose...

Grealish's numbers last season (pro-rata for minutes played) were very similar to Buendia's, but in a stronger division. I think there's a very good reason why Grealish is worth so much more.

It's quite funny actually how an awful lot of people were saying when we sold Emi that he's better than the overated Grealish, and there was even that silly poll which Buendia won with 80% of the vote. Yet now the feeling seems to be in the England threads that Grealish is a must-start for England?

This makes little sense, unless of course Buendia is being rated as one of the best players in world football.

And if Buendia had a release clause in his contract ? Wouldn't £30m have seemed a very acceptable amount two years ago ? However I suspect the OP is merely trying to find something to moan at.

Fair point re. a release clause, we don't know. What we do know is this: we've sold a player who had one decent Premier League season for £33m in readies, some possible bonuses and a 15% sell-on clause, and we've brought in a player who's had several decent Bundesliga seasons in a weaker side within that league, was looked at by Bayern and Leipzig inter alia, and got him in for £9.4million with about £2m in bonuses and add-ons.

Outstanding business, especially if Rashica kicks on and plays well for us.

Where do you draw the line with this? If Villa get 100 million and we sold him for 50 million would that be still a bad deal? Would we need to literally get the entire fee for Grealish for people not to moan?

We would need to literally get Grealish for some people not to moan.

Even then I'm sure there's always his hair, the fact he needs to pull his socks up, or pass a bit more.

I'm sorry, but all this talk about Emi, leaves me feeling a bit "meh". We got a good price for him, he's moved to a club that offered him more money and good luck to him.

But, I think he's sold himself short by going to Villa and could have waited or at least seen if any other clubs would come in for him. The bottom line is that he is gone now and as much as I would want to see him do well, because he has chosen Villa, a club who may well be struggling next season, I just think, well, "meh".  Thanks for the memories, but would have preferred if he had gone to a better club.

Probably worth also pointing out we just signed a player for 9 million when last summer he was being linked with moves for about 30 million. pfffft a steal that.

I wonder what Emi will think about Grealish potentially leaving? Might make him top dog but that puts Villa 4 or 5 places at least lower than where they might have been.

I've a sneaky suspicion this won't end well.

Grealish isn't worth £100m, a fee they have also supposedly bid for Kane.

Buendia was worth what Villa paid, he struggled in the premiership last time around so is still relatively unproven at the top level. I would have liked us to have held out for a little more but if it meant we could get decent money on board at the start of the window to then build a squad good enough for survival then it's good business in my eyes

Wasn’t looking forward to Emi’s return a few weeks ago, but am now looking forward to 3 points from a Rashica winner at Carrow Rd now 👍

If Jacky "8 to twelve 12 year old shin pads an' footy socks" Grealish does go an' Emi don't hit the ground running and show why he's been purchased.....I don't think them Villa supporters will give Emi any slack.....

I wonder if partially, he was told Grealish would be moving on and he'd be the 'main man' as the creative force and they've promised to strengthen the other positions around him with the money? Would explain why, partially, he was so desperate to go to Villa.

Villa has very good prospects. Buendia agreed to their terms and Arsenal couldn't match.

I have no doubts that Emi will find his way to Barca/ManC/Bayern tier club in a few years. Norwich's share of the eventual transfer fee could reach £10M if Emi fulfills his whole potential.

You mean the Arsenal who look like spending North of £50m on Ben White? Decent defender but Brighton look like they'll get above market value

Which nicely confirmed my point about the considerable premium on home-grown talent.

You'd think if the people moaning were actual supporters they'd say 'I did feel like we didn't get as much for Emi as we should have done but the steal we've made on Rashica has saved us more than the difference on a replacement'

It's hard to imagine such a world.
