Yep! But the blame lies entirely with those Marxist footballers taking the knee. They made me completely forget about Withnail, and now I live in fear of what other of my judgements have become infected by their communist plotting.

They made you go on holiday to Penrith, by mistake.

A film that ends with Shakespearean tragedy and virtually no 'waste' in every single moment of filming (either through the dialogue or scene or music score) has to be admired. The bitterest of humour too. Amazed it is a so-called cult classic only but I'm guessing it's not everyone's cup of tea. "Here hare here" one of so many favourite lines.

Uncle Monty:
Oh! you little traitors. I think the carrot infinitely more fascinating than the geranium. The carrot has mystery. Flowers are essentially tarts. Prostitutes for the bees. There is a certain je ne sais quoi - oh, so very special - about a firm, young carrot

Never a line spoken that hasn't described a character so well!

Spot on! It's a film I have always recommended to foreign students as one of the most quintessentially British (comedy) films ever made. I never tire of it.
