Just because he's gone to Palace, it doesn't mean we'll be "competing for our key targets" with them.

There are far too many variables involved for it to be that simplistic.

He was our lead scout, he will have scouted our key targets, if they impress he will bring them to the attention of his new employers. That is his job. Last time I looked Palace had a lot of players out of contract.

It's quite common in business for people to have to sign an agreement on leaving one employer for another in the same industry that prevents them from doing business with anyone they were involved with while working for their previous employer. I imagine it would usually be the same for someone leaving one football club for another. Unless you think that our club is too stupid to ask for such an agreement?

Seriously! You think he is not going to use what he has learnt to sign targets..ok. 

More bad news though... really need something positive as its all negative at the moment.

Losing your key scout is not great.

Individual scouts will not know all the targets that a club is pursuing. Clubs do tend to build some 'Chinese Walls' around scouts so that all of a club's strategy cannot be leaked should one member leave. Windows are planned 6 months to a year in advance - a scout switching clubs in one window isn't likely to mean a massive change in direction in a recruitment plan. 

Chris Jones, although highly regarded is a scout - he is not a Head of Recruitment or Sporting Director - these are the people who build the strategies and make the deals.

Worth noting also, Norwich have multiple 'lead' scouts covering the same areas. He is not 'the' lead scout, but one of many scouts the club employ.

Chris Jones was one of three 'lead scouts' Mariela Nisotaki and Tom Reeves are still at the club. In his 'All In Yellow' Podcast interview Kieran Scott says that Chris Jones focused on 'two areas abroad' so he probably wasn't even still doing domestic scouting. 

Scouts switch between clubs fairly regularly and it doesn't bring recruitment plans crashing to a halt. The scouts at Norwich are probably doing very little work now on players to sign this summer, and are looking at stuff that could potentially happen next year.

Obviously losing a scout isn't great but these things happen. I don't think it will suddenly mean Palace chase all of Norwich's targets as he was a scout - not the guy in charge of recruitment.

Yeah we will not be competing with Crystal Palace for any targets. Their budget is astronomically bigger than ours and they won't even consider a player if he isn't at least 6ft 1 and lightening fast. We'll be shopping in completely different pools

Yeah but we're operating on a much lower budget and we have to marry those attributes up with technique to play Farke's football, so we'll probably be looking at younger unproven players or gambles. Palace will have a healthy budget for ready made, proven players in the prime of their careers so there might be some cross over in terms of attributes but they'll be looking for 15-25m players and we'll be looking for players around 8m tops

I don't disagree with you here but if we do restrict ourselves to those categories (above) then yet another relegation will ensue as sure as night follows day I'm afraid.

On his linkedin it says that he has been scouting in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Croatia, and Poland in the 2020/21 season.

So we'll see if Palace now sign any players from those leagues!

I would be surprised if a scout make an immediate difference on the targets pursued.

Surely, Chris Jones takes with him knowledge of players Norwich might have pursued in January, or next summer? 

By now, surely most clubs (perhaps only excluding those still looking for managers) have their targets known and are either pursuing them or keeping tabs on them if they are in fact behind 1st choice targets?

Not knowing too much about scouting operations, I might be talking absolute rubbish.
