Why not no sponsor?

Recommended Posts

Personally I'd prefer no sponsor and three sweet-looking shirts with great designs.

Remember when 700 fans and the board raised £5m for the academy? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43555702

Why not apply the same principles and get 100,000+ fans to chip in? £50 each raises £5m at these numbers, and fans would be more willing if they got a shirt with their 'share' purchase...

How many fans do we have? The Twitter account has 750,000 followers (yes, I know they're not all fans). Where there's a will there's a way...

Because it is worth around £5m in revenue and as a self-funding club after Covid I'm sure every penny is valuable to us!

I genuinely think something along these lines would be a great idea. If we truly believe in the whole self funding thing as a club this would be a great next step

It's a nice idea but not sure it would work. A lot of fans area already forking out a tidy sum to attend the games in the first place, some of those might also buy a shirt which would be around this cost, to then pay another £50 I'm not convinced you'd get 100,000 people do it. Only way it would work for me is if you get the shirt for free if you pay your £50

I think there's a big difference between raising funds for a specific purpose (ie the Academy) and just donating £50 to the club which ultimately could just be used to give already obscenely well paid players a bigger pay rise.

good point, the players should be encouraged to chip in too. Maybe a percentage of monthly earnings across the board could be suggested...

Think money is the big problem. We will likely try pretty hard to find a new sponsor but checking their past will be a must due to the whole BK8 sh1te.

Hi Tesco, I feel that Asda or Aldi would better suit our colour scheme. Try the blue lot down the road.

Lol, you want our players to wash their own kit as well?

Getting silly now.

Barcelona had no shirt sponsor for several years but are now completely skint with debts of £1 billion so even the mighty need the money that a logo brings.

I can think of 5 million reasons ...

If I don't see "Nael's Big Paynus Ltd" or something similar on the front of the shirt by the first game of the season, I'll be booing louder than I've ever booed before.

That'll learn 'em.

Anyone who thinks we should go without a sponsor has just completely lost the plot. We clearly need every damned penny we can scrounge together and even then we'll still be the poorest club in the league by a huge margin. 5M to us is enormous, we've only ever bought 6 or 7 players for more than that in our entire history

If it's a self funding club the owners should sell it or give it to the fans. Then I would chip in to fund the sponsorship black hole.

£5m would have gone a long way to either loaning or buying Ollie Skipp.

Or topped up Emi’s wages to £80k for the remainder of his contract

100,000 fans at £50 a head?  Meanwhile, back in the real world…
