I couldn't see anywhere below to vote so I voted above. I hope that's ok.

Hi FeedTheWolf hope you don’t mind me continuing the conversation here.

Whilst the club have slipped up. Could this be a good opportunity to create a better image and philosophy for this sort of thing going forward? You say you and your wife won’t be getting a shirt next season because of bk8. Would either of you have happily bought one made in a sweatshop for Adidas or Nike? Not trying to corner you, I own stuff from both brands.

My point is only that perhaps we could use this to look not only at our club but also ourselves for creating a fairer and more sustainable future?

The wonders of modern day globalized capitalism means living a truly 'ethical' life is basically impossible, especially if you don't have lots of disposable income.

Far too sensible a post. If you're new here, you should definitely post more.

I might add Ashley's world, or bought off Amazon and so on. As KC says, being really ethical is a challenge nowadays

But you can make a series of small, incremental improvements to various areas of your life without much hardship:

  • Buy less new stuff, shop second hand on gumtree etc
  • Eat less meat and more veg, buy free range chicken and eggs
  • Cook healthy meals at home rather than using global fast food chains
  • Cut down on your waste and recycle as much as possible
  • Walk and cycle more
  • Switch to a 'green' energy supplier, turn the heating down and wear a jumper, save energy where you can

And you can easily help fight discrimination and prejudice:

  • Call out casual discrimination
  • Don't buy a shirt with a gambling firm sponsor with sexist social media posts
  • Reflect on your own behaviour and stop using derogatory language
  • Vote for progressive political parties who want to properly fund public services rather than spaff billions up the wall on contracts for their school chums.

None of those will cost you anything and some will save you a lot of money. Even the ostensibly expensive switch to an EV is actually costing me nothing* because the fuel savings basically match the extra mortgage payments.

The point is that you don't have to be perfect to be better. Demanding a higher standard from your football club is fair enough.

Respectfully I disagree.

You can buy 2/3 Fairphones for the price of the latest IPhone (disclosure - I’m sending this from an iPhone) Nike / Adidas products put together for a few quid are some of the most expensive sportswear out there. This could go on for all sorts of companies all over the world but we buy their products because they are the best and keep our eyes closed to the what really goes on. No doubt the club were doing the same with maximising revenue.

My only really point is why stop with caring about only this? If you want Norwich to adhere to a higher standard than most of us seem to hold ourselves (me included) why stop there?

If we are so offended about what we are seeing in bk8s videos. Why are we not equally outraged by the above whilst our football club pays individuals £20k+ A week? Why not make Norwich one of the first clubs to Impose an upper wage limit for footballers whilst poverty and suffering still exist in the world - let alone this close to home.  That’s something I can’t see many getting behind…

But by all means go the club, I ask only people consider themselves and their own moral compass when it comes to right and wrong. Whether it’s care of workers or the terrible treatment of animals used in testing cosmetics. We can all work ourselves into a frenzy over this but if most of us are being honest I don’t think we can come from a holier-than-thou position, not really.

Absolutely yes.

The absolute state of of people getting so upset over nothing.

So what if some women do some provocative stuff of their own free will. Free choice is feminism yeah? Unless I missed the memo that being equal means you have to still pander to what the Conservative minded prolls want.

Just to be clear to you and @McKil I'm not saying we shouldn't try- I just find it hugely frustrating when you hear people basically saying 'if you use an iPhone it means you can't complain about xyz' as often comes up in these discussions.

Utterly ludicrous.

So if it's apple who sponsor us you'd refuse because of the child labour and kids down mines?

Likewise for any battery product?

You'd not support an alcohol sponsor, if they could?  Alcohol wrecks lives, so you're boycotting carrow Road until they remove the Woodfordes hoardings?

Pathetic virtue signalling.

Yes, he should be forced to buy the shirt instead! That is much better!

Except it hasn’t actually come up in this one has it? Unless you’ve misunderstood my posts (which could also be me wording them badly)

to clarify, it’s not “you can’t complain” but  “let’s look at ourselves as well as the club

a further point I’d make is that if/when the club do make more sustainable decisions we can’t then use that specifically  against the club if we end up suffering in the league “we didn’t spend this” or “risk that” etc.

Sorry, I wasn't claiming you were. Its something you see across the forum though (ie a couple of posts above this).

Sure, hadn't got that far in thread,  was merely replying as if we were in a conversation.

I'm grown up enough to know that me rejecting  the shiny baubles of modern life won't save the planet.

But to quote that great pillar  of commercial  ethics... Every little helps.

Id still buy a shirt if we were sponsered by p*** hub. It wasn't a great decision but we need to get behind the club this season, rather than let all these negative vibes carry onto the pitch before a ball has been kicked.

I'm busy at work so can't reply as fully as I'd like to, but you raise some valid points and have initiated a really interesting debate. Look forward to catching up on it later.

The best thing I've done for myself (and by proxy, for those around me) in the last 5 years is to start learning about various types of philosophy and the ethics / virtues that they discuss.  Although I'm still a beginner, and have lots to learn.

Religion and spirituality are in decline - these traditional bastions of ethics and morality have slowly been replaced with rampant nihilism, commercialism, or pseudo-religious socio-political movements.

I'd 100% recommend reading some philosophy ('virtue-based meaning' type stuff, not necessarily Nietzsche) for anyone who feels unsettled / angry / upset within themselves or the world in its current state.  It helps you AND it helps you help other people.  Win / win.

That's all fair enough, as long as you're not using the other issues as an excuse not to bother addressing any of these things. Like I said above: you don't have to be perfect to do better, and we should all do better when we can. Hopefully all of these issues will be addressed over time and only through discussion and action can anything ever actually change. So let's keep having these conversations and maybe make better choices next time we buy anything.

I don't buy the shirts (or any of that kind of stuff ) but if I did in this case I would not. Apart from anything else what is apparently BK8's direct and deliberate marketing link to the p o r n industry is totally beyond the pale. I also wonder what some of the club's other sponsors feel about this.

We need a Saville Row partnership to make Purple a NCFC suit 😉

I used to buy one each year but I haven’t bought one since we started having betting sponsors, this doesn’t change anything for me.

While that’s true, overtly negative firms like Gambling are easy to avoid, not really the same excuse.

Depends what the shirt looks like. Didn't buy last season's as didn't like the design.

I might have a picture of an asian girl stuck on below that horrible logo.
