Feedthewolf 5,479 Posted June 2, 2021 (edited) Ben's on the bench for the England match against Austria tonight. One expects he'll get a run off the bench, which presumably will mean another chunk of add-on to come from Everton. Couldn't be happier for him, I said he'd play for England from pretty early on in the last Championship-winning season. Fantastic talent! Will we get an add on from a friendly or does it have to be a competitive game ?
shefcanary 2,799 Posted June 2, 2021 I don't really understand why players not selected for the final Euro's squad are turning out with only 10 days to the start of a competition. This match should be trying out tactical experiments to see if those in the final squad can hack it. Southgate has lost it in my opinion.
Branston Pickle 4,003 Posted June 2, 2021 (edited) There’s probably several players being given a break - those who recently played for Chelsea, Man City and Man U for example. Edited June 2, 2021 by Branston Pickle

Still leaves a good 17 players from final squad though, more than enough for a friendly.  If Ben comes on at right back well that proves Southgate hasn't a clue Edited June 2, 2021 by shefcanary

If he does come on at RB then I agree it'd be totally baffling. With Maguire still an injury question mark, it makes sense to give international experience to the players on the standby list. Getting the first cap out the way will be a lot more valuable for Ben than it will be for Maguire to get match fitness.

Very similar to the goals Turkey scored past him  Not doing the Dutch fans any good for Kuls image, they already were hating that he was playing when the squad was annouced

These players have played a full season after the shortest close season ever due to Coronavirus. The greater the rest they are permitted to get is good for all. 41 minutes ago, shefcanary said: Still leaves a good 17 players from final squad though, more than enough for a friendly.  If Ben comes on at right back well that proves Southgate hasn't a clue 2. 17 players still leaves 5 players playing 90 minutes. I would expect greater rotation ahead of a major tournament when the key is do not get injured! 3. UEFA have relaxed the squad rules to allow replacements to be called up if injury or coronavirus intervenes right up until the first day of the tournament. As such, Godfrey might yet get the call if - for example - Maguire doesn't get fit in time. https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro-2020/news/0269-126056345f3d-cbd4b7ed8458-1000--euro-rules-you-might-not-know/

Also with Sancho unwell he has 14 of the 26 man squad available tonight - 3 of which are goalkeepers. Players can still come into the squad to replace injuries so it is worth giving the fringe players some minutes just in case, especially if they are new to the England team. Would be totally daft to not use players like Lingard, Godfrey etc.

Absolutely hammered into the corner, he reacted quickly, swept his legs and couldn't quite get there quick enough. If a keeper stops that it's an absolute worldie of a save. Christoph Stiepermann 1,229 Posted June 2, 2021 Krul never seems to look as competent playing for Holland as he does for us, even when we're in the PL. I suspect Farke is just much better at organizing a defensive structure to limit unpredictable shots and difficult angles than De Boer is. Krul always seems so well positioned for us, not so much for Holland and I suspect it's down to coaching and organisation in front of him.
cambridgeshire canary 7,462 Posted June 2, 2021 And so Krul gets the ball kicked direcly at him and so he jumps out of the way to let it in the net  ... Ok then
