O/T Roy Hodgson to leave at end of season

Recommended Posts

Rumour is that Frank Lampard is lined up as the new Palace manager.

This could be good for them or bad. I'm inclined to think the former as I don't think old Lumpalard has done too badly as a manager thus far.

Seems a decent fit.

Frank Lampard would be a terrible idea/

If you try to lurch drastically from one very defensive playing style to a very attacking style in one go while going through a squad rebuild you're erm...gonna have a bad time, there are countless examples of this being the case. It's not only a coaching issue it can be impossible to change the style of you have a squad of players who can only play a certain way.

This is even more pertinent when the outgoing defensive manager was well liked and going a good job because you can't make up for tactical un-familiarity by getting more out of the players individually. The reverse is true as well, if we sacked Farke half way through the season and appointed Hodgson (just an example) we would struggle massively.  It is much better to change gradually, evolution not revolution.

They would be much better off getting a pragmatic but more positive than they've had for a while manager like Cooper or Potter for a few years then going for someone like Lampard. Unless they would be happy to accept a relegation then build with Lampard over a few seasons I can only see it being disastrous, would be good news for us at least anyway.

I've never thought Palace as being a particularly defensive side.

(On checking the two it seems that both Lampard and Hodgson both employed the "attacking" 4-3-3 nformatio, by default,)

Having said that, their goals for this last season is poor, despite that massive wages bill.

Looks like Palace are going to appoint Lucien Favre. Seems an excellent appointment on paper.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out. Feel it will either be brilliant, or a disaster.

Favre has such a distinctive style it will require Palace’s recruitment to be spot on over the summer. Looking forward to seeing how Benteke copes with having to carrying out the high, aggressive pressing that Favre loves…

Don't forget that Palace now have Whatsisname who left our scouting team with a massive void. 😀

I Wanted Favre as our manager before we appointed Hughton, think he's absolute class, would be a great signing for them if as BYG says they recruit suitably to complement his style.

Didn’t pull up any trees at Dortmund and they looked better without him but he’d probably do ok at palace

Yes, that awful 62% winrate must have been terrible for their fans to have to bear, so much worse than the previous appointments of Bosz (33%), Stöger (42%), Klopp (56%) and was a FULL 1% lower than Tuchel who's now at Chelsea...

Favre is one of the best managers in the modern game IMHO, he turned round Hertha, BMG and Nice, not to mention getting Zurich their first league title in 25 years!

He even got the record of being the first Dortmund manager to go their first 15 games unbeaten, but you say they were better without him...?!?

Probably one of the most under recognised managers in the game, but with fantastic tactical knowledge, the ability to develop youth, and work within relatively tough constraints, and easily better than many of the names being bandied around for higher profile jobs such as Spurs etc.

I hope Whatsisname who left our scouting team to go to Palace had a list of managers on the pen drive he downloaded from our database. He must be on the second page of potentials. 😀
