Norwich City stats for the season

Recommended Posts

It proves, if ever it was needed, that Buendia is the most complete player ever to wear a Norwich shirt.

He is irreplaceable.

 Martin Peters was that.

A few others like Boyer, Paddon and Crook and Sutton need consideration.

Temperament issues also have to be considered when making such a bold statement.

Wow, just wow!  When you read stuff like this you realise just how lucky we are to have Emi.  No wonder we struggle without him after reading that.  He's superhuman!  Oh Emi Buendia, he truly is football heaven!

Buendia scores goals, assists goals, and defends like an absolute demon. His stats are staggering.

No argument, just informed discussion here. Peters never got sent off btw.

Wiki:

Martin Stanford Peters MBE (8 November 1943 – 21 December 2019) was an English footballer and manager. As a member of the England team which won the 1966 FIFA World Cup, he scored the second of England's four goals in the final against West Germany. He also played in the 1970 World Cup.[1] Born in Plaistow, Essex, he played club football for West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Norwich City and Sheffield United. He briefly managed Sheffield United before retiring from professional football in 1981.

Peters was known as "the complete midfielder" as he could pass the ball well with either foot, was good in the air and difficult to mark because of his movement.[2] A free kick specialist, he was described by England manager Sir Alf Ramsey, after a game against Scotland in 1968, as being "ten years ahead of his time".[3] His versatility was such that while he was at West Ham he played in every position in the team, including goalkeeper in his third game, replacing an injured Brian Rhodes.[2] With his transfer from West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur in 1970, he became Britain's first £200,000 footballer.[4]

Edit: would I want a 24 years old Emi Buendia or a 24 years old Martin Peters starting for us next season?

Takes your pick. Peters would never be sent off and was always excellent at dead ball situations. Emi can be good, but is often poor. with that and invites reds.

'Complete' means just that.

Martin Peters was 31 when he wore a Norwich shirt, so we don’t get to compare a 24-yr old MP with a 24-yr old EB.

I don’t hold Buendia’s disciplinary record against him. Many of his red cards have been questionable at best. He gets yellow carded because he is very often ‘tackling back’ from a difficult angle in his enthusiasm to win the ball. No manager in the world would be daft enough to try and curb this trait.

If he wasn’t the most fouled player in the Championship last season , then he must have been very close to it. Although not necessarily regarded as assists, he must have produced numerous opportunities to score from free-kicks around the box.

As much as I liked watching Martin Peters and Graham Paddon play, their absence from the team had nowhere near the effect that Buendia currently has.

Buendia will also unfortunately prove, when he is sold, that he is by far and away the most valuable player ever to wear the green and yellow.

I don't think I've ever seen a player as "complete" as Emi, even the likes of Ronaldo and Messi don't have that defensive tenacity to mirror their attacking play that he harbours and seeing those stats are incredible as an attacking player he ended up being the best defensive player in the league, as well as the best attacker in terms of top assists, and 3rd for most goal involvements (the top 2 being Strikers, surprise, surprise). Emi has grown a lot this year, we always knew he was very good at putting things on a plate for the strikers but his goalscoring was sorely missed in the Prem season, hopefully this time around he's more in the mood!

Wholeheartedly agree with all this.  Just hope he isn't sold until after this coming season.
