Look forward to seeing him next season in the PL.  Fits the bill for physicality and presence and but for injury would have done more this season to show what he can do.  Makes goal scoring look easy and great temperament.

Honestly looked very fresh and up for it when he went on, proved a real handful. Been one to defend Hugil, but fair to say Idah looked better than him today

Just got back from work so didn't see today, glad he got his goal though. Will watch out on Quest later.

To be honest, I think playing for a really crap Repubic of Ireland team actually hampered his progress

I still think he needs one good loan season out. Still annoying his loan to Doncaster fell through think it would have helped him out

I don’t think anyone really knows how good he is yet. We’ve seen flashes when he is really effective, and sometimes he’s struggled to make a difference. But you could say the same about Hugill and even Pukki. The fact that Farke keeps giving him his chance is probably the best indicator that he thinks there’s a player there. But the loan question is interesting, let’s see what happens.

Idah may well be able to contribute next season, particularly if he has a strong pre-season and develops freakishly the way Cantwell did, but the fact remains he still needs an injury to Pukki to get a run in the team.

If you look at the other youngsters who have got their chance under Farke, they either had weak competition at the time (Aarons, Lewis), senior players injured (Godfrey, Omobamidele) or multiple spots to fight for (Cantwell).

Assuming we sign a new striker in the summer, which most assume we will, Idah will certainly start behind Pukki in the pecking order and probably the new striker too. If Pukki stays fit and in form, then Idah won't get a proper chance.

Is it worth keeping Idah on the bench and limiting him to the odd sub appearance here and there until Pukki suffers a lack of form or fitness? His development has stalled a bit since his hat trick against Preston through little fault of his own, but because the pathway to the first team has been blocked, and still is.

He needs a proper run of games to fulfil his potential and no matter how well he has been developing behind the scenes away from our eyes, I can't see how he's going to get it here next season. The only real option seems to be a loan for his (and our) own good unless we can guarantee him regular starts, which we can't with Pukki around.

A loan with a 24-hour recall clause would be best (appreciate this means we can't get a decent loan fee, if any) but get him out playing matches and if he's needed here due to injury or a barren run from Pukki/Possible new striker) we get him back in and give him a run of games.

You can't recall players outside of a window.

Such a deal doesn't exist

I think you have to weigh up the possibilities.

A short term loan could work, but a good pre-season, with a good showing in cup games, a good showing from the subs bench - or even starting if he does really well - and talk of a loan becomes irrelevant.  His advantage over Hugill is that he can play on the left as a kind of attacking midfielder and so has a bit more versatility to his game to be able to come on either as a replacement for Pukki, or on the pitch as well as Pukki.   I suspect he will have a big part to play next season - he certainly has the physicality and is a bit more mature than he was two years ago.

You should remember that Idah was once being touted as being very similar to Ibrahimovic. Today I thought he was great when he came on. Offered so much more than hugill. The goal apart, his touch and skill tore Barnsley apart at times. Should be part of our squad next season. Sentiment happened today but no room next season. Hugill may be worth having around the squad as there is no doubt he is of the right character. Having him about will breed togetherness but Idah is better. We need another in Pukkis mould. Then I would be happy. Pukki , A N Other, Idah and Hugill.

Indeed Hugill showed all his limitations today, had the chance to prove so many doubters wrong and yet the cameo appearance of Idah shows who our second striker is at present.

Still have high hopes he could break through next year, has all making of a great squad player for next year.....think we should keep him here and utilise his strength next season, if we don’t buy far better in the summer.

I think he looks a real talent and it is going to be a hard decision what to do next year. It would be such a hard league to really play your first season I n (as this year has been so disruptive).

the flip side is that there aren’t many sides that play the football style that we do in the championship, so where would you send him that will support the development we need him to make. Maybe Reading?

I've quite liked Idah in his cameos so far. Needs to be a bit more ruthless in his goalscoring but his movement and linkup play is very good. I think he has a lot of potential still

Loans can be cancelled at any time with consent of both clubs. I'm sure if it was made clear at the outset what the situation was and no loan fee passed hands then it would be doable.

I suppose hypothetically the player can be sent back if both parties agree, but he can't then be registered with his parent club to actually play.

Pretty sure you can loan out a registered player and they would be eligible to play immediately on their return. For sure, it'd mean wasting one of the 25 spaces temporarily but if it's best for us and Idah, it's worth considering.

Not in the Premier League they can't.

Whoever falls short in the playoffs would be a good team to send him to. Coventry wouldn't be too bad either as they like to play.

I'm no expert, but as I said, if Idah is registered in our squad, he can be loaned to a Championship club, the loan can be cancelled with the consent of both clubs, and he'd be eligible straight away.

There would be an element of trust in the borrowing club involved, and we'd use up one of our 25 squad places on a player not there, but it'd be doable.

He wouldn't be allowed to be registered if out on loan. 100% the kind of deal your suggesting is not allowed in the Premier.

I’m a big advocate of young players getting out on loan, the ideal scenario would be Idah, Barden, Big Andy, Famewo, Martin, Soto etc all playing regularly in the Championship as the next part of their development.

We're likely to be behind in vastly more games next season so we'll definitely spend more time with multiple strikers on the pitch. We'd have to sign two more before we could possibly loan one out. You absolutely need 4 strikers minimum in any squad.

Idah was our 2nd choice forward at the start of the season. Injuries/Covid etc moved Hugill ahead but I would hope it’s Pukki, Idah and another next season. No disrespect to Hugill but Idah’s all round game is much more suited to us.

Reading the front page of this very Pink Un todays has painted an optimistic future Idah.

But I can't see it.

Yes he has not had a good run in the team due to all the above but his run outs for Ireland showed for me he is very restricted in what he can do.

So hope im wrong but to rely on him as our second or even third choice worries me
