Branston Pickle 3,632 Posted April 25, 2021 Weird, 3 teams sat in 77pts, with Brentford just ahead on 78. Nice to be well clear of all that fun and games
unique 434 Posted April 25, 2021 Good result. Reading should be sufficiently disinterested on Saturday. Barnsley should be resting players the following Saturday. That’s if we need any help.
Crabbycanary3 994 Posted April 25, 2021 Hang on a minute. Looks like it's all change for Swansea.
Crafty Canary 495 Posted April 25, 2021 This means Reading and Barnsley have nothing to play for in their games with us. Mind you Brentford and Swansea have nothing to play for in their games with Watford. City to be Campiones once again. ⚽️
Icecream Snow 761 Posted April 25, 2021 I think even now that Reading are out of the playoffs I'd still expect them to throw everything at us. It's a free hit for them and I'm sure their manager will be trying to salvage as much pride as possible.

Nice to be well clear of all that fun and games I really thought that Swansea and Brentford would put Watford under more pressure. Swansea could have overtaken us by winning their games in hand after they beat us and Brentford were going really well when they hit the top of the table in the new year. But both us and Watford went on pretty incredible runs while the others fell back. Credit to Bournemouth for the late push. They looked in total disarray earlier in the season but have hit form at a good time. The playoffs are going to be pretty exciting.
BroadstairsR 2,138 Posted April 25, 2021 Reading out of it yet strted the season so strongly. Anyone but Bournemouth for me ....... entitled lot and a bit like ITFC with a small club syndrome. Not keen on Woodgate either. Brentford deserve it after last season's narrow miss. Manager ok. Barnsley promoted would be good for us next season, I feel. Take most of the 'unfashionable' tag usually reserved for NCFC. Manager ok. Swansea are also on the weak side as well these days. Manager .. a miserable sod.

There will be players in the Reading side who will be looking at moves and not wanting to scupper that chance. Barnsley might want to head in to the play offs off a good result but that's got 0-0 all over it.
cambridgeshire canary 6,674 Posted April 25, 2021 So Readings season is over? Nothing to play for then, might as well give us 3 points then
Branston Pickle 3,632 Posted April 25, 2021 (edited) Reading are a good side and will want to give us a game - but there may be an ‘edge’ taken off their effort now that they haven’t got the playoffs to fight for. in terms of the playoffs and who I’d like to see win, in order of preference it’d be Brentford, Barnsley then Swansea, Bournemouth....so just wait and see the final is between the latter two! But both us and Watford went on pretty incredible runs while the others fell back. I think fatigue and fitness have played a big part of that with Swansea and Brentford this season though. The Championship started five weeks later than usual but still had to cram the games in and finish on time. Swansea finished "last season" on July 29th and Brentford on August 4th after playing eight games in July, then had to cram in pre-season work to play in the EFL cup on September 5th/6th and start the Championship season on Sept 12th. I think this season has helped the possession based teams with large squads and good game management. I always felt that Swansea needed to keep the ball more, and that Brentford's approach was based too much on athleticism. It's a very difficult season to try to outrun teams. Hank shoots Skyler 2,094 Posted April 25, 2021 I fully expect us to dismantle Reading after that, going to be a real kick for them to have dropped out of the playoff spots having been pretty comfortably in there nearly all season. They won't be up for it. Lets coast to the title in style please, can see a really strong 2 or 3 nil in the mould of the Bristol City home and Forest away performances. Ken Hairy 3,758 Posted April 25, 2021 So pretty much everything sorted in the Championship with 2 games left, only left to see if Rotherham can catch Derby.
pete 318 Posted April 25, 2021 All 4 teams in P O's will want to go in with some sort of form. Brentford v Rotherham will be interesting if all now coast to P O's in order to rest. Sure Toney will want to secure Golden Boot.
HazzaJet 252 Posted April 25, 2021 Like others have said when it comes to the playoffs the only team I don’t want to win it Bournemouth. In our last promotion season I was delighted to see Leeds throw the title away, then automatic promotion, then get knocked by Derby in the playoff semifinals (just like they threw the title away in our League One season). If Bournemouth fail to win the playoffs they may lose more players this summer, which could affect their strength. Seeing themselves still in the 2nd tier and the other two relegated teams bounce straight back up might also be a bit frustrating for them
Willmeister 35 Posted April 25, 2021 Reading are in dire financial straits. Anybody who is worth anything will be sold off in the summer. I hope that they might not play the likes of Joao, Olise (who will probably be too much for us, but would love for us to go in for him), Meite and Swift as they will probably need to sell all these players to stay afloat and the risk could be too big if they got injured. Olise has an £8 million release clause, I would fully expect us to be talking to his agent at that price. What will price us out is wages if the likes of Southampton went in too.
