Meanwhile, down the road....

....Ipswich fire yet another blank!  Is that getting on for something like 7 games?   Bit of a shame as Wombles missed a pen, too.

How many 0-0s is that in a row?

Edit: sorry, forgot their 3-0 defeat to the mighty Northampton.

They're keeping so many clean sheets Durex might be the next sponsors. Sorry, I meant they're firing so many blanks that Viagra might be the next sponsors.

I have uncovered the problem. Apparently this is hanging in the home side dressing room:

There was more chance of 3 teams getting 90 points in the Championship 😉

If only Agent Paul 2 had been appointed earlier in the season, then they might have had League 2 to look forward too next season.

I'm genuinely a bit fascinated by the mindset of their fans. Second time in 3 seasons they've changed manager mid season, got no bounce and yet their fans are entirely happy to write off the entire season.

Lambert was bought it with them bottom in October and was given an entirely free pass, Cook came in with them something like 3 points off the top 6, takes 12 points from 13 games and yet he's apparently the new messiah and nobody could get anything out of their squad. Crazy to me.

Surely the manager laying into his players every interview doesn't help at all?

Unless his plan is to force most of them out in the summer and have a complete rebuild.

According to Transfermarkt, it's all of these guys in 2021, and the way Paul Cook is carrying on it sounds like they'll barely have anyone left.

There is likely to be a huge clearout of players at the end of the season with so many out of contract. Where’s the money coming from to bring in new blood? Whilst some will come from the saved wages of those released there is unlikely to be significant outlays on transfers. I expect that they will play a lot of youngsters next season.

Cook slating the players may have been ok for a couple of games...but when you keep doing after EVERY game, the players are just going to think f**k off. Is it any wonder they wont play for him.

....and besides which, why is Cook talking about them as if he's on the outside looking in?.....surely he's been there long enough to be in some way responsible for these results?

...at least Lambert left after winning 2 games and 2pts outside the playoffs...Cook's taken them backwards!!!

Or , in his case , neither 😂

Cook has completely lost the plot and must be gone very soon. After last weeks post match interview, to follow up with this one is just suicidal. Appalling in all respects. He says that players aren't trying and they don't care. Surely that's at least partly his fault. If the players he picks seriously don't care then he should play people who do. I might even start feeling sorry for 1p5wich fans having to put up with this......ok, not really.

I'm not sure how they even start rebuilding - I don't think he knows either.

It's remarkable that their best attacking player is a 30 year old journeyman who has never played higher than League One.

They really do have such a lack of quality. I disagree with the comment above re. Cook. I would attach very little blame to him - he is really just telling it like it is. Their squad has failed miserably for three straight seasons now, under three separate managers.

They are obviously excited by the prospect of the takeover. My concern if I was one of them would be:

- FFP rules will severely limit what their new owners can actually spend.

- The overhaul will be so extensive that it will be a huge task to gel a disjoint group of recruits together quickly and make them into promotion contenders.

- Attracting the quality they want will not be easy given where they are.

- They are going to have to finish above sides like Wycombe and Rotherham who will be streetwise at that level. Also the likes of Sheff Weds and potentially Sunderland, Portsmouth and Charlton.

It won't be at all easy, even if Cook begins turning things around, for them to get out of that league next season.

Shame.

Cooks desperation to distance himself from the past is extraordinary. To slaughter the current players has been suicidal- it’s a cr4p league and they only needed to win a couple of games to get in the playoffs . Their run in has been the easiest of the lot - Beat Wimbledon twice and your in the playoffs

you have to question how the jolly scouser with the ludicrous teeth has actually managed to be so poor ?

I think that's exactly the plan, looks like Cook is playing a real life game of Football Manager.
