Jim Smith 2,290 Posted March 31, 2021 As others have said, just build in a margin of error. Make the lines thicker to reflect a couple of frames of the camera and if there is any overlap between them then give the benefit of the doubt to the attacker.
TeemuVanBasten 3,327 Posted March 31, 2021 Offside should be scrapped and 'goal hanger' should become an official position. Imagine the Goals For column, and Jamie Cureton could play on forever!
Foxy2600 282 Posted March 31, 2021 They removed it one year (Daarn Saaaf anyways) County level and below, 1973-4 Oil Crisis when you could hardly get enough players let alone refs and lino's. As a left back, once you know your best mate isn't going to flag some dubious decision because you were too slow getting back or didn't have enough talent to 'spring the offside trap' you all played behind the ball and player. If that meant marking the CF in the 6 yard box you did it. The game adapted - as it did when it was re-instated. For me, its more ridiculous to both the game and the spectacle, when Pukki's (Tottenham joke decision by Shockley Park) armpit hair is offside, when to everyone who's played, reffed (at amateur level) or just watched, he's level - and level is on. Drazen Muzinic 1,421 Posted March 31, 2021 We need more referees with the cojones of Ray Tinkler...despite the BS from the hard-done-by big team, he stuck to his guns - quite rightly. And it gave us a chance to laugh at Leeds too of course. VAR is a cop out. Barry Davies didn't help much either but don't get me started on commentators and pundits... Crafty Canary 490 Posted March 31, 2021 The easiest solution is for the feet of the attacking player to be behind the last outfield defender. If the attacker is sprinting forward his upper body might be ahead of the defender but if his feet arr behind he is onside. Teemu’s goal against Spurs would have been ruled onside by this protocol rather than the VAR offside given.
WD40 720 Posted April 6, 2021 For those that followed this thread initially - here is an interesting tweet highlighting the fact wengers solution would solve nothing of the VAR, line drawing problems. It would simply give attackers more advantage. https://mobile.twitter.com/zonal_marking/status/1379464340563189761
