Borussia Mönchengladbach

Recommended Posts

Not Norwich City related but let's face it, we're up now so my attention has turned elsewhere. Is Borussia Mönchengladbach the longest club name in world football?

Excuse the bold letters. Defeated by technology again

Borussia Mönchengladbach - 23 characters

Brighton and Hove Albion - 24 characters (OK, 22 if you use "&" instead of "and")

What about "Frank Lampard's Derby County" although I believe they are now called "Wayne Roonie's Derby County"

AFC Bournemouth used to be called Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic which must take some beating.

Well they have been beaten 10 times already this season.🖐🖐

Unless there is no ö available, in which case strictly speaking, in German (and everything spoken in German is strict) it must be written

Borussia Moenchengladbach

- 24 characters!

You have to go by the club's official name, in which case it's ö.
That said Bright's club badge uses "&" but then there's:
Inverness Caledonian Thistle - 26 characters.

There’s a fuller discussion here. You’re welcome. www.theguardian.com/notesandqueries/query/0,5753,-26702,00.html

My favourite off there is NAC Breda:

Nooit Opgeven Altijd Doorgaan Aangenaam Door Vermaak En Nutting Door Ontspanning Combinatie Breda

Being quite partial to Dutch names. My favourite ever player name is Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink

There was a five-a-side team in a local league that called themselves Borussia Munchenflapjack. For some reason, my team-name suggestions of Spasstik Moscow and HIV Eindhoven did not go down too well.
