TIL 1010 4,656 Posted March 10, 2021 Playing at the Ricoh again from next season having signed a ten year deal with Wasps RC who own it. Good to see them settling down from their nomadic existence and hopefully with decent home support. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56345125
Feedthewolf 4,789 Posted March 10, 2021 Saw that earlier... dead chuffed for them. Hope they manage to stay up this season and Mark Robins can establish them at this level back at their rightful home!

Naturalcynic 605 Posted March 10, 2021 Shame for them that they ever had to move from Highfield Road, but I suppose the ground was old and had limited scope for modernisation. At least The Ricoh is easy to get to by road, even if it is rather soulless.
cambridgeshire canary 6,514 Posted March 10, 2021 Good news for them but still too big of a stadium for them Even when fans were allowed only ever half full if that

I know we have a larger catchment area, but based on stadium capacity / population of the city should be broadly similiar Coventry should find it easier to fill theirs. 34k / 362k (9.3% of the population) compared to 27k / 195k 13.8%. yellowrider120 738 Posted March 10, 2021 Pleased for them and, of course, their manager who has done a tremendous job in the circumstances. Would love to see their fans flock back in numbers and back what Mark Robins is doing there.

They moved out of the Ricoh in 2013 and have therefore had no home support for several seasons so have a look back at pre 2013 crowds.

Darth Vadis 150 Posted March 11, 2021 Good for Coventry, a team that promotes youth and good football - I mean we've seen Maddison and McCallum from them - hope to see Robins establish them as champs team.

Tbh there was a case for us to be more 'disappointed' with Everton that day and we could say they did us over, not Cov. Oh yes, nearly forgot, banned from Europe also, due to Heysel. After the high of Wembley to that, in the space of a couple of months. Gutting (caveat - nowhere near as tragic as those that lost their lives at Heysel) I am pleased for the Cov fans though. Being back in 'your' stadium is a great boost, after al the sheite that's happened to them.
Branston Pickle 3,598 Posted March 11, 2021 Pleased for them, but I have never and will never forget our relegation in 1985. All that happened since was just karma.
canarydan23 4,060 Posted March 11, 2021 I've got family in Coventry. Sleeping giant would be going a bit too far, but if they were at the top end of the Championship with a whiff of playoffs and didn't have an owner that a sizeable chunk of their fanbase were boycotting, they'd get 20,000 fans through the doors. And if they ever made the Prem, they'd exceed it easily. It's a great day out for away fans as well, get there early and spend a few hours in the casino getting nicely drunk before watching the match. Perfect. And if you're driving, you're pretty much straight onto the M6. On a good day, if you can avoid the jams at the A14 and keep your foot down, you can get there in 2 hours. For a team that get's an avereage of 9000 home fans I see your point but I think that is a result of their nomadic existence. Their largest ever attendance is a 25% higher than ours. I think there is potential for them to regularly attract 30k, especially if they are playing in Coventry. Look at Brighton as an example. Whilst at the withdean they were lucky to get 8k, now 30k.
