Buendia's flaws.

Recommended Posts

After requiring a rare rocket from Farke Emi has gone on to have his best season. We all appreciate his attributes.

But he still hasn't full eradicated the flaws which hold him back.

The poor discipline is still there and it will be exploited at a higher level, he has improved and is passionate, not nasty, but it still needs work.

I don't want to see him over emphasising his frustration when he doesn't get the pass he deserves, or a colleague makes a mistake. I know his standards are high but he needs to contain it and this leads to his main issue.

Emi cost us a lot of goals in the EPL when he lost the ball and remonstrated when he should have been working back. A player like him is entitled to the odd error and grievance at not being protected by officials but he cannot stand around protesting.

He did this yesterday. Ince got free and his cross almost  put us an early goal down. You could see Emi realised he had arm waved too long and tried to get back but his lapse almost cost us.

He has clearly added a lot more strength to his game and, apart from free kicks, is an incredible player but he still has areas to improve to be an EPL player or an International.

Seems to have calmed down a little in the last few matches, but his temper and attitude during matches can be poor, nevermind his habbit of always rolling around and complaning straight to the refs ear the second he get's even lightly touched by any players..

But of course none of that takes away from the simple fact that is one of if not the one most naturally talented wingers we have ever had the fortune to have at this club

He sent a hospital pass to Cantwell yesterday which allowed Ince to break away.

Quite  few of his passes went astray in the first fifteen. However, they are usually ambitious, and boy, when they come off they are nothing short of brilliant.

We can't have it all.

I fully agree about his temperament issues but I do not think too much can be completely contained with this as his Argentinian blood rules. He'll learn the basics in this respect as he matures, but he'll never lose the unbridled passion that causes him to be rash on occasions.

I mean he is comfortably a premier league player already.

This. Wasn't he 4th in chances created in the EPL last season? In a team that came bottom. And got only 21 points.

He's easily an EPL player already and a top one at that. And I suspect he'll go to the World Cup in 2022. Even if he continues to renonstrate after being tackled and blaze free kicks over the crossbar.

I agree that they'll never be eradicated from his game, and they are the kind of things that will stop him being with elite clubs.

That said, if we establish ourselves in the Premiership, he could be our Zaha or Le Tissier in that regard - a player some way ahead of the rest who helps keep us up there. So, as annoying as the obvious flaws are, we might as well learn to like them, as they may be why he stays.

Take away these so called flaws and he wouldn't be the player he is and is growing into. He's fine how he is. I just hope we as fans will get to see him live at Carrow Rd again.

He is tracking back far more than used to , sometimes he is just everywhere but , and this is a personal thought is a feel he is playing for himself and to get noticed . I’m not 100% on why I’m feeling like this , body language maybe but he doesn’t look as part of the team an the others.

Happy to be shot down on this and no I’m not a binner. 😀

I am confident Farke can coach the faults out of Emi. I also believe the phlegmatic Pukki is a major influence on him.

He has developed considerably this season in term of his personality. He will not lose but channel his passion.

If he can do this, blend discretion into his brilliance he will become a 90m player.

....and he wouldn't be at Norwich. The only chance we have of keeping him next season is if he remains imperfect in some way. He is potentially world class - up there with the only other two who have played for this club, Peters and Maddison.

Our promotion chances , even now , would be hugely dented by losing Emi in the run in. It’s a simple as that .

We saw it two seasons ago.

Nah, we could play me in place of Emi in the run in and we still wouldn't screw this up now.

Would you like him to walk on water? How about finding a cure for cancer and solving the homeless problem?

And he definitely needs to be taller

Time to concentrate on what he gets right. Goals, assists, the most skilful player your likely to have seen ever in yellow and fantastic work rate. Not a bad player all things considered.

I wouldnt agree with poor discipline personally. He gets wiped out alot and opposition players dont get booked as soon as he makes a foul he seems to get booked which winds me up let alone him 🤣

flawed genius , there's been enough of them gazza , best , cantona , maradona , the list goes on, add emi to list too , but he's different class to anyone in this championship and will be immense in prem next year. otbc

Best player in the championship and there’s a thread trying to pick flaws, odd

It’s odd isn’t it, I guess many must be perfectionists. In the alternative perhaps a helpfull thread of well meaning expert  tips to help him develop his game 😉

I can't remember this happening that much at all really. Do you mean the Watford goal in the 3-0 defeat, that's not how I'd describe it personally but maybe what you're getting at? What other ones were there?

Anyway its pretty normal for such an attacking player to give up counter attacks now and again, that's the nature of the roles they play - they take risks in possession and inevitably when something doesn't come off its bound to happen (whether that's taking someone on or trying a difficult pass).

Yes he does wave his arms around a bit sometimes. But I'd much rather we had a team of 11 Buendia's fighting like their lives depended on the game - and occasionally getting frustrated for very brief moments - over someone like Dowell who I don't think I'd seen get stuck in to a tackle or press once!

Yes Buendia gets carried away sometimes, but if he wasn't so enthusiastic and determined to get the ball back then he wouldn't be such as asset when pressing the opposition. It's two sides of the same coin.

I wouldn't change a thing about him to be honest, except his set piece delivery, but I'd rather we just left the set pieces to someone else! I certainly can't see him being the set piece specialist at his next club!

And why isn't he Lionel Messi for Christ's sake? FFS he must try harder.

He's a bit on the small side as well. And he has an Argentine temperament. Definitely wouldn't want him here unless he proved himself at Premier League level

Apart from an average set piece delivery, there isn't a thing I'd change about him. If that means the occasional strop or red card so be it, his tenacity is what makes him exceptional at the press and confident enough to try to the sublime.
