18 February 1967, Manchester United 1 Norwich City 2, Heath, Bolland, FAC.

I was there, great day. Guy who stood next to me at CR always called Bolland "spindles"

You can read all about that match here - https://www.thegiantkillers.co.uk/1967norwichcity.htm

So below we have Bryceland (left) and Bolland (right) but who is the player in the middle.

No prizes though

It is indeed Laurie Sheffield. The picture is not from that game however.

As for the kit, where is the green?

That is my conclusion. As you say Laurie did not play in that game.

Looks almost certain the "Star Pix" was taken at KO at the Sheff Wed game.

I was at that game and it really was something beyond our wildest dreams.

And the game also had two oddity goals from us but one from Denis Law that is as good a goal as you will see. But all to no avail for the Stretford Enders.

I remember his debut for us. A hat trick against Derby.  A year later and he was gone.

Gordon Bolland was the first player I remember City signing for a fee (of any note at least.)

£35, 000 from Leyton Orient.

I have resisted checking it on Wiki, just to establish my powers of recall ... which may now be refuted.

Where did the dosh come from? An earlier memory for me was that charity blanket being marched around the pitch.

I think the shorts were aways black until a couple of late sixties seasons when they went to green, then black again for 70/71,and back to green for 71/72 and thereafter...

We did go to green socks for a season in the early 70s

Didn't Laurie Sheffield move on to Luton and do something naughty? I used to work with a former Luton player and I'm sure he told me that Sheffield was 'a bit of a lad'

£31,500 from  Leyton Orient, according to wiki

I think you can be pleased with your powers of recall

69/71 was changed back for laundry purposes. Geoffrey Watling didn't feel we were getting our money's worth from the easily faded green shorts which were handed down to the ressies all too quickly. Black was more durable.🙃
