Meeky 0 Posted February 15, 2006
Good pics, but does anyone have any pics of the nest? I think this site is now a DIY store (or something like that).
You''re thinking of Godfreys on Riverside Road. The Nest was further up the hill (which is now industrial units). There is a house halfway up the hill with a club plaque on the wall saying this was the site of the Nest, you need bloody good eyesight though as it''s very high up. The Nest was situated in the area where the chalk was being mined, hence Chalk Hill Road being just round the corner. If you look at one of the pictures you can see the chalk hills behind one of the stands. In Canary Greats one of the first guys interviewed had a good long throw and he tells you how he used to practice his throw ins before games up against the chalk walls. Juggler 7 Posted February 15, 2006 Nice pics, but the overhead one isn''t from 1935. They didn''t start covering the South Stand until the 1960s.
ManchesterCanary 0 Posted February 15, 2006 Great pics...thanks all....ahhhh the memories. We used to get into the river end free at half time, if the game was boring we would play on the grass bank.... until the hooligans used it for battles. Then we found a way to get into the south stand (as it was known then) for free, under a chain link fence at the back and come up under the stand. Anyone else remember that? Pete Raven 276 Posted February 16, 2006 First time this pic did the rounds I was reliably informed it was the River End (N&P) by someone who used to sit/stand there, with the main stand to the left.
