Other fans opinions

Recommended Posts

As I'm sure many others do (although they may not admit it) I occasionally have a look around the fan forums of other clubs. It is interesting what a low opinion of our club others have (often a good sign).

Depending on which forum you go to we are:

  • The luckiest club in the division
  • The biggest cheats in the division
  • A crap team with the worst PL record in history
  • All of the above

One of my favourite appraisals of us was on the Swansea forum.... We have won nearly all our games by one goal, whereas they have absolutely hammered a couple of teams. He therefor concluded that as soon as we had a couple of injuries the wheels would fall off and we would drop out of the automatics. So wise was this extrapolation that several of his cousins stopped bothering the livestock to agree with him.

I do the same these days, as never before.

With nothing of note on TWTD these days ('The Daily Norwich' no longer exists.) along with the tribulations of lockdown it's quite a good way of passing the time, even though some of them are pretty poor.

I have come across some of the negativity you mention, especially from the fans of some of our close rivals, but for the most part there has been acclaim.

For many we seem certainties promotion automatically, "a Premier  League team already" and a club to be admired.

Despite his occasional hammering on this forum, Todd Cantwell is lately being singled out for praise, whilst Pukki and Buendia are recognised for what they are.

I'm also a fan of Benjamin Bloom's output these days and his praise of City is unceasing, despite him having to bite his tongue throughout. He repeatedly emphasises Emi's status as the Championship's outstanding player and drools about the strength in depth that our squad possesses.

The denigration of our achievements by the fans of some of our closest rivals can easily be dismissed as churlishness. Rather like the views  of the ITFC supporters on TWTD;  in the time when they could bring themselves to even mention their superior rivals.

This interests me, despite the bias of supporting different clubs. They've scored less than us, won two less and drawn more.

I would say there defensive record is excellent but offensively, despite a couple of decent scorelines they've not been hugely convincing.

Yes, but they do have the most artistic logo in the entire league.

I thought that City's was unique in the Championship in being the only club badge not to have the name of the club on it; rather like the British postage stamp is alone in the world in only having the Queen's head and the denomination on it, but I notice that Derby have recently dropped their name and only have the ram logo now, and there may be one other club as well.

Fascinating stuff.

A couple changed them around - didn't Hull City remove it from theirs and just have the tiger's head? Bolton only has initials and not the name. Wolverhampton springs to mind as well - think they've just got that hexagon with the wolf head on it.

Yes a lot have updated lately. Something to do with commercialism ...... logo on a mug sort of thing?

How about this for City?

I must confess, after someone linked the Bournmouth forum a month or so ago, Ive taken great delight in watching them slide down the table. I know all fans think their team is the best, but there is a difference between feeling hopefully confident and in there case a sense they are above this league.

Some of my favourite lines were something like 'Now we are two points behind Norwich it will only be a weekend or two before we pull them in, take top spot and won't let it go after that'.... Or, 'Norwich haven't had to face any adversity yet, lets see how their form continues when they have some injuries' (LOL) and finally 'Theres not a single player I'd swap for one of Norwich's, we also have the best keeper in the league'.

So yeah. Hows that going so far Cherries fans? ha

They were once forever and always the teeny weeniest of clubs, famous for being our very own feeder club and for the fact that their biggest fan was Tony Blackburn.

Amazing what just a few years in the limelight can do.

Someone on a Whatsapp group posted the following in response to my taking delight at reaching 50 points: "I’m bored of the same teams up and down... I’d like some new bloody like Brentford."

I asked him who he supported ... Manure of course.

Such a typically arrogant attitude. Anyone who gets to the PL must earn that right and therefore deserve it.

Swansea are well run, a bit like us - they have also followed a plan with Potter and now Cooper, who play good standard, proper football with a bit of agriculturalism thrown in. They are certain to be top 6. This years equivalent of Sheffield Utd.

Bournemouth are a bit more of a basket case because they've gone from being Eddie Howe's media darlings to some other bloke running Eddie Howe's team and they should therefore be in the EPL. They have some good players but only a couple who would definitely get in our first choice team. They will need to show a lot more pragmatism to end up in the top two than they have shown so far, and I wonder whether Tindall has that skill. They are always prone to the odd surprising result and that isn't the way to get promoted from the Championship as Leeds proved in 2018-19. Bielsa had to temper his enthusiasm to grind out results - as he will have to do again if they are going to survive this season.

I still think Watford will come up to challenge for the top two. There's no "entitlement" with them, they just work hard and have a few very good players. If they can stay clear of injuries, they are the biggest threat.

Watford are dark horses at the moment, I certainly think they'll come into play. I'm surprised Deeney has struggled to get goals so far, he's the type of player you'd expect to score a hatful no matter what league he is in.

Still, other teams fans will take shots at a us because we are the ones to beat. As long as it stays that way, we're doing something right.

I could see Bournemouth being a bit like Leeds and Watford being a bit like Villa when we went up last time. Bournemouth seem to have this air about them, sometimes as a result of lazy journalism, that they are a prem squad in a league they are too good for. The trouble is I don't think they have the same resilience to going a goal down like we do, or have as solid a defence as Swansea.  Watford could well be like Villa who sorted themselves out enough to get a good run together, but with the overall strength of the top 6 its going to be that string of away draws that would deny them a top two place, and they might end up going blow for blow with Brentford for 3rd place. I guess a lot of those head to heads will end up deciding it, we are in a position where we just have to keep a gap and then deny any of them 3 points against us.

I tell you what, I'd want nothing to do with the play offs this year if its going to be Bournemouth, Watford, Brentford and one of Reading Middlesborough and Stoke. Whilst Im not convinced any of that lot are going to be able to run away with the league, they are all in with a good shout in the complete pot of luck that the playoffs can be. Personally I hope its Us, Swansea and Brentford that make it over the finish line.

Watford are completely rubbish away from Vicarage rd, until that improves play offs only.  And are likely to lose players in transfer window.

It's pretty damn hilarious that so many rival fans keep saying things like "just wait until they get some injuries", do they actually do any sort of research before spouting such nonsense?

The one I've started noticing a lot on Twitter in recent times is fans of "big clubs" commenting on various tweets such as transfer rumours about our top players, who, when said big club is apparently interested in signing them, post saying things like "You're a championship team valuing your players at £30m, you have no right to value your players so highly" etc - what is this theme of fans of bigger clubs thinking we should just give our players away for nothing just because they want them? It happened with Lewis and it's not happening with Buendia. It's like when Klopp and Liverpool fans moan about a team playing defensively, as if they are supposed to just roll over and let them win!

No need to be apologetic for looking at other clubs forums - nothing wrong with that! Can make very interesting reading, though when you see people who don’t know what they’re on about, that’s pretty amusing - saw a Bournemouth fan saying their draw was very good against Millwall because they’d already beaten Norwich this season! Er no, we played out a scoreless draw in a game where we absolutely battered them!

Made me laugh the Bournemouth fan saying wait till Norwich get some injuries 😂😂😂. But then I realised that poster was inadvertently complimenting our squad strength and depth - because unlike Bournemouth our second 11 would still have every chance of getting promoted! So despite being down to only 11 or 12 fit pros a few weeks back, he didn’t realise this because many of those back up players are regularly involved or competing in the first 11 anyway, and so I guess he was quite familiar with the names of Tettey, Zimmermann, Hernandez. What makes me laugh is they go on about their Premier League SQUAD 😂. Do me a favour, it is very much a Championship squad!, they sold their best 2 last summer, and now they’ve probably only got a couple of players left who really can operate at Premier League level ie Wilshere and Brooks. Solanke? Yeah, Premier League player indeed 🙄. I’d love to see what their second choice 11 would be like but I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be Premier League. And it certainly wouldn’t be as strong as ours at this level.

Reading the Spurs forum was interesting the other day, I read the Skipp thread from the moment he joined us (was 24 pages at that point) and now it seems quite a few of their forumites will tune into Norwich games albeit just to watch Skipp. But I think our play is actually impressing some of them.

Do love reading other message boards, it’s often quite entertaining - especially when they lose and we bag another ‘lucky’ 3 points! Haven’t bothered looking at Ipsh1te’s for a couple of years now though, such is their irrelevance.

Watford can’t find any consistency and fans are saying that Deeney is not the player he was-I don’t think any of their first team squad will leave this month-Sarr is probably the only one left who was thought to be sought after in the summer-they are trying to scare teams off with a £50 million price tag.

The Brentford fan base seems to have a more than average amount of folk that are way over their station, I honestly think they believe they’re Real Madrid or something, their message board certainly makes for an entertaining read. They forget that for the last god knows how many years they’ve flattered to deceive every single season bar none, ultimately bottling it without fail year after year. Luckily a quick read on their forum tonight confirms that the combined signings that Bournemouth, Swansea, and ourselves have all made are crap, and none would either get in the Brentford side nor strengthen it (😝). Something tells me underneath all those comments there’s some green eyed monsters there as all 3 clubs mentioned have potentially signed 3 very decent players, who, if they’re good enough to start for us then they’d certainly be good enough for the mighty Brentford.
