cambridgeshire canary 6,675 Posted December 23, 2020 'I don't think Tim is available for Boxing Day. The injections seem to work and I expect him to be back after the FA Cup break. Stiepermann is a major doubt. A while ago, an infection in his ear caused problems with his balance. It's not dangerous but he's not 100%. Placheta hasn't been in team training, so is more likely to return after Boxing Day. Lukas Rupp and Xavi Quintilla are also back in training and are options for Saturday. ' There we have it. No Krul then- But thankfuly we have McBuffon in goal, Stepi having picked up an ear infection (alrighty then..) but more importantly RUUP AND XAVI ARE READY FOR WATFORD, I REPEAT RUUP AND XAVI ARE READY FOR WATFORD Merry Christmas folks 🎅☃️
lake district canary 4,531 Posted December 23, 2020 Rupp and Xavi may be ready for Watford in principle, but there's no reason why they should be picked ahead of those who have taken us on a brilliant run of results. For instance, how could you drop Sorensen when he has been an outstanding performer in the last few weeks? Tettey and Mclean have been good too and neither Rupp or Quintilla will be match fit. Maybe on the bench and give them some minutes later in the game, but we will need 100% match fit players against Watford. No need to rush anyone back in. Kenny Foggo 1,116 Posted December 23, 2020 MCGovern has been excellent recently so no worries, we have more midfield options so should not miss Stiepermann. Might see Sorensen in Midfield....

Much as he has been good at covering for us would be interesting seeing him in his natural position and the postion he came here to play in

He looks so comfortable playing at left back, I'm itching to see what he can do in his "correct" position.

But Sorensen is not a natural left back, with him in midfield with skipp or Rupp both of our full backs can push up as they will now have adequate cover
Samwam27 519 Posted December 23, 2020 Sorenson should not be dropped, but if Quintilla is back, I'd like to see him at LB and Sorenson partner Skipp in midfield. That a) gives Sorenson who's fully fit a chance in his preferred position b) Sorenson to start ahead of Rupp (who now looks excellent in a central midfield role, but no need to rush him back) & c) Sorenson to drop back to LB if Quintilla has injury problems, with Rupp coming in. Rupp & Sorenson should both start ahead of Mclean in midfield to partner Skipp imo
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted December 23, 2020 Unfortunate news but perhaps not the body blow it perhaps could have been for 2 reasons 1] Mc Govern has been playing out of his skin 2] with the COVID upswing will football be still played much longer ?? HazzaJet 252 Posted December 23, 2020 A bit disappointing as we’ve all been expecting Krul to be back for quite some time now. Not a massive blow though as McGovern has improved over time and I think we should be able to manage without him. Nice to see Quintilla, Gibson and Rupp are back though, as we will now be able to see Sorensen play in his natural position which we’ve also been waiting for. Nice to see Quintilla’s back as well - was starting to think that his loan spell with us was going to get cancelled in January.

Just as the team were getting used to them and expecting them he went and got inured.. Feel him and his crosses are gonna be a real asset to us
TheGunnShow 5,930 Posted December 23, 2020 Totally agree with those who are hoping to see Sørensen get game time in his preferred position, although he is more circumspect with his positioning than Quintilla, and considering the pace Watford have down the flanks, I'd prefer to see Sørensen there just for this match, then Quintilla come back in afterwards. Will be nice to see Rupp back. Skipp has been excellent but I'm not averse to the idea of letting him have a game off here and there as it is his first season of being a regular first-teamer. Sørensen and Rupp for me looks like a really tasty central midfield pairing with a bit of everything.
Mr.Carrow 376 Posted December 23, 2020 I really think Sorensen and McClean fully deserve to keep their places. I find the "Sorensen isn't a Left back" posts a bit odd. If he plays really well there does it actually matter? Also, McClean has been excellent since he came back in, involved in both goals against Cardiff and apparently won more headers than any other player. Sometimes some of the important things a player adds to a team are not the most obvious.

Sometimes some of the important things a player adds to a team are not the most obvious. The question re. Sørensen is - does it help his development that much to have him constantly playing out of position, regardless of his level of performance there? We could be in the strange position that his performances are better than what the specialist left-back can provide, and he's playing in his theoretically third-strongest position on the pitch. The argument is not really whether Sørensen deserves to keep his place or not, as he certainly does. However, putting him in the position he was intended for - the round peg in a round hole - should really be his reward.

Hopefuly he will prove to be a gem, he has something to prove after all given his prior history at Championship clubs

Both will be options from the bench at Watford and the QPR games.
Newtopia 517 Posted December 24, 2020 I don’t think Farke will change the starting line up - he rarely changes a winning team without a good reason. Our bench is looking increasingly strong. It will be interesting to see what he does with Xavi, and Lungi, I assume a few cameo’s initially for Xavi, together with some midfield time for Lungi.
